Trolling Skirts in Exmouth

Guys I am off to Exmouth in May and chasing some advice on what skirted lures to buy before heading up.  Advice on teasers would also be great.

last year we used williamson lures and richters ..... both went well with the darker colours being the best for sails . they where 9 inch models from memory . some ppl using fluro's went better on dollies and tuna than we did.

i will be up in exxy in may as well so i hope we get some good weather :)

Soft grassies, hot

Soft grassies, hot breakfasts ,sprockets all worked well for us. But if you wanna catch bills easily then go live tuna baits. 3-4 kg stripey nose rigged is an absolute killer. Very visual and hands on way to catch blacks

Cheers Mick

Black

Any colour as long as its black. ;)

I run Oscar Juniors and Soft Grassies for medium sized bills - 100kg and under.  The oscar juniors I always run in black (502/506) - accounted for 2 sails and 2 marlin landed and can't count the amount of hookups)  For soft grassies I always run a pink/white combo or a lumo.

My next door neighbour got a 60kg black yesterday and witnessed a huge billy (est 200kg +) mow a big dolphinfish boatside, said it was unbelievable to watch.

As for teasers, I run the Williamson plastic mullet and a home made beer can teaser - 3 half cans, a 11inch pusher, then a 60g silver twisty to a 13 inch pusher on the tail.  Smokes!!!

What they said. As for

What they said.

As for brands they all work, find a lure with a big cup for running on calmer days to throw a lot of water and heads with smaller cups or narrower cups for rough weather. I will usually run a larger 10-12inch off the corners and smaller 8-9inch of the riggers. Colours will vary on the day. Always run a lumo and the rest swap and change till you raise the fish. If your buying new lures check the hooks. Theres no use having gun lures if they don't stick. I have found running a single owner hook more productive with hookups.

Teasers are another issue. Try and get a pakula wichdoctor or simular (williamson does 1 for half the price) off 1 corner and a string of birds and skirts or just as adam said, half cans or even CD's. Anything that throws a bit of water and light around to imitate baitfish.

Its all trial and error, find out what works and stick with it.

Might have to get a few dolphinfish for live bait then Adam.

Try this website, its Peter Pakula lures which gives you an idea.

http://www.pakula.com/book/03%20Lure%20Rigging%20P2.htm

Have a read but if you get stuck the boys at Bluewater tackle are prety good or Campbells.

You will need a set of crimping pliers, wire crimps, mono crimps, hooks, heat shrink and mono leader. You can also use D shackles and hook and leader guards if you wat to go the whole hog. You can buy twin rig hooks for lures and d shackle them straight on which saves time but i don't use 2 hook rigs anymore because of safety and its easier to get 1 hook out let alone 2.

For 6-8inch lures i use 200-300pnd mono and 300-400pnd for anything bigger.

If you want a hand PM me.

I hope this helps
