Agree, thanks.  The deaths in other countries are very scary, and we seem to have done well so far.

The government position to review “lockdown” if there is a measure to monitor “contacts” makes sense.

I'll download the app if it helps to control COVID-19. IMO, if you have any form of smart technology these days like phone etc, the government, if they have a reason to, can already spy on you. none of us have full privacy anymore anyway.

Bang on mate, I had a good chat with my son who's very tech savvy. This app uses blutooth so if someone's not comfortable using it you can switch it off. All this crap of big brother is a load of malarky. We are living in a democratic society not authortarian China. If it helps with this virus and gives us more freedom of movement then it's gotta be a good thing.

The government want at least 40% take up for it to be effective. 50% of Australians downloaded the Pokemon go app. We obviously don't mind giving private companies very similar info. I'll be in if it helps.

You just broadsided everyone that doesn't share your view calling them stupid.

Been there many times myself as a kid in PMH with chronic asthma once with pneumonia and had pneumonia that develops into sepsis and put me in ICU with a 10 day stint when I was 24 and still require prednisone at least once a year during peak flu season.

Based on the govts track record with robodebt, the botched census and constant Mygov shutdowns which they always lie about and blame hackers for I am highly dubious about this app and will not be downloading it when it's first ready. All it's going to take is for one devious 'account' or some less than tech savy oldie to send the community into panic mode.

Call me stupid all you like but whilst numbers are this low I chose not to opt in.

Sat, 2020-04-18 17:04

well ill go out on a limb ........and i dont consider myself stupid , lol

its a no for me ,

this a tad over the top imo , people are dying all over the world every min from something ...and that is sad and tragic and i feel for anyone who has suffered this way from it

however there are other ways to manage this and so far without the app we have done ok `especially in wa

the world has other big issues to contend with imo , which need to be dealt with like the 200 k that are added to our planet every day .or 80 million a year ..how many years can we keep doing that before we end up with some massive problems that will make covid look a lot less of a problem imo ??

two days of the current birth rate has repopulated every person plus on the planet who has died from covid world wide so far !!!

that sounds cold and harsh , which i dont mean it to be , but it is an unavoidable fact at some point our health system has all potential be truly overwhelmed anyway , same with food and water etc

somewhere down the track gov or a world gov will need to cull or remove the population or humanity will implode one way or the other from the drain we place on our planet

this and other types of measures are imo a slow move in removing freedoms

fire at will .............

I can't believe anyone would willingly want to be tracked by the goverment let alone download an app to make it easier. I wonder how many of these overnight laws will get reversed once all this is over. You can pass anything you want if you argue from a point of authority; don't you want to beat this virus? Don't you want to beat the terrorists?

I saw on the department of health website that the WA police just spent X amount of millions on drones and cameras with automatic number plate recognition to "track non-isolators". When this covid 19 is beaten I can assure you they won't get won't get thrown in the bin.

Ok, I am abit slow on the uptake some times.......

Can someone explain why the app is so bad?

My take is that it tracks who you meet, or have close contact with. In the event that you or someone you have meet gets COV 19 they can trace contacts and inform them to isolate.

What harm can it do?

walfootrot as an example

Sun, 2020-04-19 13:15

walfootrot

as an example ...
well remember when you first got a bankcard ?? in the 80s or where given info from the bank about them , ?? how good they where , no fees , etc ?? back then i got paid in little yellow envelopes with cash and most of us went into a bricks and mortar bank with staff , ??

bankcards where pushed as the best thing since sliced bread, then over time as more people got a bankcard, the fees started being applied the higher interest rates where applied , especially for cash out ?? atm fees where ramped up , especially if you did not use your bank atm ,, , real banks lost staff in the tens of thousands all over the country .. , credit atm fees where applied in any place you used the card,, retail pubs , fuel etc not just atms

then banking went online , no fees to start with ... how about now ?? how about banking security online ?/ is your personal info safe ?? etc

now the gov is introducing a law to ban cash transactions over 10k , punishable with 2 years gaol if caught with more than 10k in cash ,

mortgage interest rates are low ?/yes , how do they compare at moment to credit card interest rates ?/

this is just one example how things that start of for one purpose can move in different directions over time and not for the better ,,,,,imo

and as i wrote before given our low covid cases , im not sure its needed ,

when other means seem to have had success

if you took the cruise ships out , how low would it be ?

Mon, 2020-04-20 10:01

I'm cautious but Google already knows our movements anyway. What would be the downside of downloading the app and then deleting it once this is all over? Can the govt install something in our phones that would allow them to continue to track our location? If so then I'd be much less likely to download it.

but from what I have read the app doesn't track your geolocation so it's not actually tracking your movements.  It is recording your proximity to others with the app.  Either way if it helps, why not.  Having said that I don't own a mobile phone so I'm not much help.

alan , I see nothing sinister

alan , I see nothing sinister about it either really at face value , nor do i have secrets or fears about being tracked etc

my point is it is the'' ACCEPTANCE'' by all of us to just follow it or download it without any deeper critical thinking on the long term ramifications and is it REALLY needed ?

there are lots of examples where our society has accepted changes to our way of living without realising where it may go in long term future

bankcards
online banking
mobile phones
oil fuel price cartels
big banks , cartels
atms
self serve registers

its endless and its not usually about improving the lot for the med to small people in society

in europe they are trialling a small microchip in some workforces .. its put under the skin and contains a myriad of info on the implanted human wearer , ALL OPT IN ...but ??

https://www.mybusiness.com.au/technology/3200-microchipped-workforces-no-longer-sci-fi

Hezzy - you are not being tracked

Tue, 2020-04-21 10:19

The use of the word tracking itself portrays the negative to most.  This is a voluntary app which provides a service to each individual and the community in general to make you aware that you have come in close proximity to a person who has tested positive.

Whether it is it really needed is another question?  Is it best to fix the small leak in the boat when it is a dribble or when the water is pissing in?

yeh ,thanks allan i have read the info on it and understood it is about proximity contact with other phones , not tracking at this point

the tracking was just referring to other general posts about downloading this app etc and not doing so was fearfull of the tracking or hiding something ,about your movements etc ..like being named a suss character if you wont use the app lol

 Yep again agree Hezzy,

Whilst we've dodged a bullet here its a bloody good example of what can happen if you've got an egotistical maniac or just plain unlucky ( Italy )...

Maybe things will be far worse here next time around...

Could be a good time to throw some funds into the S & P 500, things are pretty dire over there but they will recover. Donald unless he gets a decent dose of the Wuhan he will again ( unfortunately for the rest of the world ) get re-elected and watch the economy over there again go boom.

Why the F do the black americans vote for him??? Is it the $9/hr they can get when jobs growth is up?

They are a strange mob, just watch Tiger King as an example :)

Of course it is still very serious but when you look at our closest neighbour they will be in some real strife one would suspect.

While America will be no doubt the highest death toll recorded, Indo will surpass them but a government like Indo will be like that of Iran.

The truth will never be known...

 Indo, Africa I don't reckon

Tue, 2020-04-21 06:49

Indo, Africa I don't reckon we've seen nothing yet. The yanks are fucked and will argue themselves to death, thousands dying each day and they all want to come out of lockdown and go back to work. The comments I read on farcebook on CNN are just mindblowing. We are very very lucky here no doubt.

The WHO have said that tracking contacts is one of the keys to this thing not getting worse as we try to ease restrictions. Worth being open-minded IMO

WHO made some fuck ups..

Tue, 2020-04-21 21:39

yeah the pricks have made some fuck ups alright. How about being responsible for the deaths hundreds of thousands of people world wide.
If it weren't for them bullshitting along with China to the world how it doesn't spred person to person things would have could have turned out differently.

Wed, 2020-04-22 13:17

this is an interesting take on the covid issue below

should we lock down at all ?/

is the cure worse that the disease ?/

pretty cold and brutal type of discussion on the pros and cons of either option
https://au.news.yahoo.com/coronavirus-economist-slammed-horrible-lockdown-idea-013505468.html

on a side note bloke i know today told me he has lost 2 mates in last week between ages of 38and 46, , one was an overdose , one was a suicide

no perfect solution in any of this

Hey Andy, I think she made some good points. There will be more death and misery due to the government induced economic crisis. Government needs to strike a balance between the health crisis and the economic crisis. Looks like its out of wack at the minute, time to open some things back up and see what happens.

Yeah mate she definitely did but I just though imagine being married to that lol. Government being extremely cautious now as they don't want to fuck it up imo

The political fallout would be horrendous, and the health side of things too.

lol yes andy I bet her point went down like a lead balloon with many of the viewers etc

but at some point any rational person must i think consider is it valid ?//
same as the population growth at 200 000 per day 80 million a year .. ?/

planet cant sustain that growth for another hundred years or more without some brutal consequences ,either way

interesting perspective regardless of if we agree or not with her , and pretty brave to put it out there in current climate

I kind of agree with how she thinks from a Kimberley perspective. We have the most restrictive lockdown rules up here aimed at looking after the indigenous population, yet I can still drive past the town oval any hour of the day or night and see large groups of them sitting together not giving a shit about anything and nothing being done to stop them congregating together. I am starting to think we should get on with life and let the virus sort out the weak and save the economy of our town.

Can't imagine being married

Wed, 2020-04-22 16:34

Can't imagine being married to that! Kinda reminded me of that anti-fishing nutjob from UWA.

I get her point but like Walfootrot says above, how many deaths are acceptable? The Swedish model would maybe translate to another 4,000 - 5,000 deaths nationally so far based on their numbers and they got their first case nearly 3 weeks after we did. They have lost 175 people per million versus our 3. Their mortality rate of closed cases is 76% versus ours of 1% so there's a lot to be said for ensuring the heathcare system isn't swamped and overloaded. Their death toll is rising pretty sharply so it's a worry to think where it will end. Much like the US but theirs was more of a case of too little too late. There are clear indictions in both countries that there were some very incorrect assumptions made and some fuckups to go with them, rather than actually planning for mass infection.

This is worth a look https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/swedish-coronavirus-no-lockdown-model-proves-lethal-by-hans-bergstrom-2020-04

I know there are other things at play in Sweden like the ski holidays in Italy but I'm still very pleased that we took a different approach. Maybe I'm just selfish because I have a number of friends and family that would likely succumb if they got this fucking thing. Either way from some good sources I believe WA may soften some restrictions that go beyond the Federal Government's guidelines after the long weekend and hopefully more broadly mid-May. Fingers crossed.

If we shut down our economy

Fri, 2020-04-24 20:44

If we shut down our economy which will take a generation to pay back over some questionable stats coming out of Italy, what is going to happen if this app is used for mischievous purposes causing mass fear and hysteria over fake reports on home soil? How will the Govt ensure each app account is genuine?

About a month late I reckon. Been getting fed a lot of limited information from the government  for a while now only telling us the things they want us to know and they now expect us to load an App for our own safety. Have Amazon run it and hope in a years time it's not sold to the highest bidder. Won.t be loading it.
