Sounder Advise

I know there has been a lot of discussion regarding comparing different brands and i have used the sewarch function but didn't find what i was looking for so here goes.

I'm looking to spend up to $2000 on a new sounder inc transducer. It doesn't need to be a plotter can be just a sounder.

What I'm looking at are the Lowrance Hook 9, Simrad S2009, Simrad NNSS7 Evo2 and the Raymarine eS Series e S 75/78?

We fish in up to 100M.

I would value your educated opinions and advise.

Thanks Mike

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

hi mike

no mention of furuno in the mix, any reason why ?

my last 3 sounders have been furuno, user friendly and relatively easy to tune.

No reason other than in that price range is the FCV628 and compared to the others is has a small screen.

The HDS 7 gen3 comes well within that price range, good unit by all accounts, particularly as you are not going super deep.  here www.chsmith.com.au/Products/Lowrance-HDS7-Gen3-Combo.html     or this www.whitworths.com.au/main_itemdetail.asp

You'll find the viewable size in height very similar between the 628 and the HDS 7. HDS 7 being wider but in widescreen format means you are seeing more history across the screen if only using it for sonar.

I was in the same boat a while ago.
I have a simrad NSS8.
Everyone havs a different budget /use etc. and if the budget can only get you a 628 in the furuno range. and you are fishing only to 100m then just forget the furuno. (My opinion)

the 628 is tiny screen and pretty bad resolution for that price.

no doubt if you can afford the extra go the awesome 588 but you are looking at 2.5K just for the unit as I'm sure you know.

the simrad gear will mark fish just as well as a 628 but with a much bigger and better screen resolution ....just more bang for your buck.

FWIW I mark good fish and flare ups in 100+m with the NSS8
and the NSS8 has something like a 60% bigger screen than the 7 (MASSIVE DIFFERENCE)
