Rec Fishing Licence renewal may not have been sent out.

Just has a fisheries check at the ramp this morning, turns out my licence only has 2 days left on it, and I haven't received a renewal notice. The comment from the Fisheries officer was that "a few people haven't received their renewal notices" So it might be worth having a check just to make sure its valid.

I don't think the good government is going to send out any renewal notices, saves postage costs and if the item requires an examination to get it licenced again then you have to pay a fee, and no prise for guessing who you pay the fee too.
So gov saves on postage collects on relicensing examination fee (if required) and hay presto AAA credit rating loss is fixed.

Sorry Alan, but I have an expectation that part of the licence fee I pay also goes towards sending out a renewal notice when its due.

If they are going to stop sending out renewal notices to save costs I want them to tell me about it.

Just an idea

Sun, 2014-03-02 09:09

Do you guys have multiple licence classes? Are they all paid on the same card?  I originally had just the RBFL, then decided I wanted South West Freshwater and Marron for a couple of trips to the southwest and crays at another time.  So I had 3-4 licence cards all with different expiry dates.  Last year, I just sucked it up and paid RBFL, SWF, Marron and Crays all on the same licence for me and the missus.  Receive new card in the mail, within a month I had a reminder for my Marron/SWF licence as it would expire soon, two months I got a cray reminder etc all based off my old licences.

Yep I reckon the system isnt really all that flash.  Personally I think they would be far better off making all licences start and stop on an arbitrary date each year, then if you dont buy it immediately you could receive a discount for the months you dont use.

I also wish they would consolidate the cards with other govt departments so instead of having to carry a drivers licence, Skippers Ticket, Fishing licences eg could all be on the same card.

Dont go there sarcasm0. The last thing we want is to connect the RFBL/Skippers/Drivers etc. If that were to happen you lose your drivers for points or something like that you lose your skippers also and vice versa. Not hard to do a heap of points on the double demerit weekends without really even being a wally, then next thing you cant drive your boat, fish

Similar a couple of beers on the water never hurt anyone but strickly speaking in a car you could go over the limit. So then if you have a couple of beers whilst cruising the water around Mandurah or the Swan you potentially could lose your drivers license also.

Keep them separate I say

Boating Industries Of Australia

Sun, 2014-03-02 12:18

I was told last Sunday by a member of the BIA that they are the only representitive body who cares about the ordinary boater, he went on to say that the BIA want to stop people buying boats from the USA. Now we have in the last couple of years had increases in our Boat Rego,Trailer Rego, Fishing license fees. No additional Launching ramps North of Fremantle, the ones at Cockbourn /Woodies are very good, so too is the one at Rockingham /point Perron. We all know the one at Yanchep is at the moment not usable. the one at Mindarie is starting to get very busy, Ocean Reef is also very busy and has a lot of yacht people launch & they can take quite a bit of time. Then Hillarys Marina, built in the early 1980s when the trailer boats in WA was about 55,000 spread out. Now in 2014 I bet there are close to that in Perth Metro, (suburbs)and still, the state goverment have not increased the launch& retrieve at any of these northern ramps,

And nor has THE BIA done anything to get them to do so. They represent the Marine outlets, Boat yards,Tackle shops etcetera, but those of us who have owned boats for many years, in my case since 1968, we have been ignored, screwed and treated with total contempt as we do not have a representative body for us. I am both amazed and more than a little shocked at the way trailer boat owners let themselves be walked all over. Next weekend the BIA are at Hillarys Marina, but to do so they are taking over a percentage of the already overcrowded car park.

Last weekend, lovely for all boating activities, I saw cars and trailers parked off the road, on median strips and in the Northern car park that is almost 300mtrs or more away. I also saw 11 cars parked with No boat trailer in bays clearly marked for car & trailer, this was at 11.00am 1 hour prior to being allowed. No sign of the joondalup shire parking inspectors, in fact I have not seen them there once this season. I enterd a piece about the BIA show last week and generally I got the feeling that most trailer boat owners simply (a) do not give a damn or (b) are too bloody complacent to do anything.

Now we have a situation where the department responsible for the issue of our license is not sending them out, and as one  member said he now has an unregoed bike. What will happen if a person does not have a Boat fishing license/cray license I bet they will get fined as the law will say they should have kept a check. I am not after a wet nurse to wipe my nose but we all pay a lot of money one way or another to this and any other bloody government. we also pay very large salaries to the heads of the departments to keep things working. No one seems to give a toss.

I once thought that Aussies stood up for their rights and a fair go, at the moment I cannot see any one out there apart form 5 boaties that I know who care about what is happening to us, the ordinary person who happens to own a small/modest boat that is not in a pen with the rich and affluent but is kept on a trailer.

Renewal notice

Sun, 2014-03-02 12:46

I got my renewal notice about a month back, mainly because I got the license well before it became mandatory but with the rush of thousands all due in a week or two you can't blame them for not having the manpower to get them out.

If you get sprung without one its more revenue to this money hungry mob we have in power at the moment so it doesn't surprise me one little bit. Boat rego has gone up again this year--no surprise again.

The BIA are only against imported boats because they miss out on sales, bottom line.
Plus what else have they done for the general boating public? Nothing I that can remember unless it serves their purpose.

Club member pinged Sunday at Jurien

Mon, 2014-03-03 22:15

One of our club members licence expired on Saturday and he got pinged Sunday at Jurien....full video taped interview , "everything you say may be used as evidence in a court of law" blah blah. He was told the fine will be coming. He told me he didn't get a renewal notice either. No excuse I suppose, but you'd think they would be lenient for 1 day over.

Also for those that don't know. You can no longer apply or renew your fishing licence at the post office. For me ( i don't have a credit card ) it was a trip out to Hillaries to pay at their office.

I think the issue arises if you buy another licence as well as the one you already have, apparently the system only sees a renewal for the last licence bought. So if you have two typres of fishing licences you will only get a renewal for the last on. Not the best of systems but obviously not a simple software update to remedy.
