Ningaloo Sailfish 2019

Finally finished it. Complilation of purely sailfish footage from our recent trip. Mostly skipping gar, or tossing pitchbaits--the double hookup when we were caught with mouths full of sandwiches was on X-Rap 30's, trolling for mackerel. Got both to the boat and released.

Sails are great fun on light tackle.

You can see from the vid that pitching gardie baits works well.  We used a similar approach back in the early 80s off Dampier.  We would skip gardies and after seeing a sail swipe a bait a few times without hooking up we would cut the motor and let all baits sink.  More often than not one or more of the baits would get picked up and the fun begins.

if travelling downwind, at least, one fish atacking a bait turns into a pod, mostly. The pitchbait rod can get in the way, at times, but it catches a lot of fish. We had a lot of double hookups, love the chaos. Got most of them to the boat too, even the pair hooked on X-raps while trying to pick up a mackerel for dinner.
