The Leuwin Current

The lewin current should be getting up there soon, saw a leatherback turtle on sunday afternoon on the way back in to oceanreef boat ramps. At first we thought it was a pilot whale then saw it's big back come up out the water, none of the pics turned out :(
So this might be a sign of the current warming up? I hear the spanish mackerel are making their way down atm.

In the whole time I've been out fishing that was the first I have ever seen one here in perth, was massive about 6ft long and a big ugly head on it.
prehaps they are more common in deeper water, as we fish 30-50m of water.

cold!
Perth is cold, approx 18-19 in general, up to 19.5 at the shelf and all the warm water/Leewin influence is Abrolhos north imo.....these Southerly's will keep it up there till Nov when the Southern current/cape current backs off with its cold influence........December onwards!

yeah prehaps these turtles follow the cooler currents north then? or maybe migration for breeding or something like that.
Never fished the sound while the salmon were running, out of oceanreef to tworocks where I generally fish there were smallish schools of salmon but nothing huge.
