Just had the shit kicked out of me

It's a bit off topic but for those who haven't had their COVID vaccinations I thought I'd share my real world experience regarding side effects. I'm 48 and pretty fit and healthy (or so I thought). Had my fist Pfizer dose three weeks ago with no real side effects apart from a sore arm. Went in yesterday for round two and I woke up at one o'clock this morning freezing my tits off and shaking uncontrollably (This is definitely not normal for living in the Torres Straights). Had a hotter than hell shower for a half hour with all of the doors n windows closed in my bathroom and was still freezing afterwards. Tried using last nights towel to dry myself and it felt like it was liquid ice, switched to a dry towel and managed to get myself dry with chattering teeth and uncontrollable shaking. Hopped into bed with a doona ( definetly not normal ) and managed to get warm and get to sleep. Woke up an hour later soaked to the bone and feeling like I was on fire. Managed to get back to sleep and woke up this morning feeling like I've just met Marsellus Wallace's friends with the blowtorch and a pair of pliers. Every single joint and muscle in my body is absolutely munted and I'm hurting in places that I didn't even know that existed. Looks like a day on the couch with plenty of Netflix coming my way. Interesting thing is my wife had the Astra Zeneca jab and she got flattened by the first dose and felt okay with the second. Just be prepared when you get whacked to have some downtime available to get your back on track. Now if I can just get my dog to get the remote for me all will be good....

Nope, your second sentence

Thu, 2021-07-01 12:25

Nope, your second sentence came after I commented on the first so how can I weld something you hadn't said yet? I was refering to your statement where you purposely and cunningly misrepresented data by quoted part of the truth and representing it as the whole truth and got caught out.

Again, try to be objective and have another read

Thu, 2021-07-01 16:07

I wrote these two sentences;
"Indonesia has an estimated 100k Tuberculosis deaths per year (some estimates up to 175k). Even with 90+% TB vaccination rates in their children."
You then misinterpreted those two sentences together thinking the 100k (or 175k) deaths were all children ... your reply included;
"You have quoted that 175,000 children die per year of TB which represents 2.4% of the 7.1m unvaccinated children."

I did not say all the deaths were children ... you assumed I did.

I have tried to explain this by giving you more information and you continue to misuse that information in an effort to take the discussion away from my initial point that the number of Covid19 deaths in Indonesia is not a catastrophe if you are aware of Indonesia's typical annual health problems with diseases like TB which causes more deaths. I could continue to provide you with scientific evidence of Indonesia's TB deaths and vaccines which would show the vaccines are not effective enough to resolve their problems alone, but this is a Covid19 thread and I feel I would be wasting mine/yours/others time ... given our past correspondance on this side issue.

Both articles I posted never said it was a catastrophe, but they are on the brink of their hospital system collapsing due to the sheer numbers being admitted or seeking treatment. What part of that can't you truly comprehend? The hospitals aren't overrun with TB patients, that's your diversionary argument.

they might have annual health problems. So now they have a new one (covid) and your arguement sounds like dont worry about this (preventable) condition because their other problems overwhelm them.

Any extra death's in my opinion is a catastrophy, because a life could have been saved.

I wonder if the fence sitters would have knocked back the Polio vax back in the day ? All i know is that the longer everyone sits on there arse and adopts a wait and see attitude the more broke everyone will become .

We need to open our borders and not just the internal ones. Pull your head out of the ground get the bloody jab and then maybe the world can get back to some kind of normal . End of Rant.

Research dear Henry

Wed, 2021-06-30 17:26

If you have thoroughly researched the history of Polio vaccines, then you probably would not raise it as an advert for vaccines.

The only way I believe we can quickly get back to normal is by changing our attitude, open everything up and accept the risks of Covid19 like we do with numerous other infectious diseases. This can be supplemented with vaccines who want them, various prophylactic and therapeutic treatments, and using faster Covid19 testing (vs the current invasive up the nose swabs).

Relying on vaccines does not work. Just look at Israel who got to 50% of their population fully vaccinated by March this year. They are now a little under 60%. But are now reimplementing restrictions and lockdown measures because of another wave of Delta variant cases. Reports say about 50% of the cases are fully Covid19 vaccinated (Pfizer).
People need to understand that the vaccines do not make you immune.

You're full of quantitative

Thu, 2021-07-01 10:35

You're full of quantitative data in other posts BlueKiaser. Use the figures for Israel. You seem quick to manipulate terms used to support your agenda in all posts.

In Jan 2021, prior to the vaccination rollout, Israel reached a maximum of 11,934 new cases in a single day. The new delta variant "wave", as you say, reached a high of 290 cases yesterday. What is your opinion on the Covid data trend after the vaccine rollout in Israel, compared to prior?

Further, not one person here has mentioned immunity after the vaccine. Only you and your straw man. It is fact that you can catch the virus even when vaccinated. So, keeping in mind one vaccine objective is to reduce severity, what is the Covid death-rate figure in Israel current day, compared to pre-vaccination?

20 Jan 2021 - 101 deaths

Yesterday - 0 deaths

You have gone and done what you have accused me of doing. Plus you are unknowingly being manipulated by Fake News propaganda.

That 11,934 cases ... that is a fake number manipulated by Israel (likely conspiring with Pfizer and others) to promote vaccinations.
The original numbers for the 26th of January through to 28th January were; 28th 8,012 (changed to 11,934), 27th 7,213 (8,587) and 26th 8,962 (3,666).
Those 3 days total 24,187 which they have not changed to reduce the attention of their changes of the data.

They had to do this because in September 23rd 2020 (24th depending on the timezone from where you report) Israel's past maximum daily cases was 11,316.
My sources are worldometers.info, waybackmachine and Israel's Health department.

I could continue to debate your other issues, but anybody with any objectivity would see the difficult task I have at hand when people continually take for granted the junk media Fake News propaganda they are being fed to maintain their narratives (promoted by the agendas and motives of powerful global people and organisations).

Good to see the other countries around the world are already moving on with life due to there vaccine rates, the sooner we open the boarders the better IMO. People haven't had a shot good luck to em.

Had a Tetanus shot last week after putting a boning knife into my fore arm an inch deep, cleaning the boat after as few beers and was lucky not to hit anything major!

Will sort an appointment for the vaccine when I return from work trip....will take the astrazeneca too, dont care bring it in on!

Tetanus

Wed, 2021-06-30 17:07

Yeah, sharp fishing knives, beer and our body parts can lead to a bloody not so good time ... been there.

I believe all Tetanus shots in Australia are now part of the DTP combo vaccine (DTPa/dTpa Diphtheria,Tetanus,Pertusis). Booster shots every 10 years.
But it takes weeks/months for the immune system to develop the antibodies for Tetanus, so that vaccine shot most likely won't help with your boning knife injury.
Furthermore, Tetanus generally comes from an infection from contaminated soil. So having a Tetanus shot a few months ago and then stepping on a rusty nail in a chook yard is a good example of a Tetanus (DTP combo) vaccine being helpful.

Using Australian statistics over the past 10 years or so, your chance of dying from Tetanus in Australia is less than 0.03 in a million or 1 in 33,750,000.
Meanwhile, vaccine producers are comfortable with severe adverse risks of about 1 in a million doses.

Data hard to find

Health departments around the world don't like reporting on breakthrough cases. Post marketing vaccine studies are some of the few places where you get to see that type of data and many of those studies are funded by vested interests (both for and against vaccine effectiveness, but mostly on the side of BigPharma).
If Health departments were more transparent with their data then I would be far less sceptical and much better informed.
And if that data showed that all 8 of the total Tetanus deaths in the past 10 years in Australia were unvaccinated, then I would be more supportive of the Tetanus (DTP) vaccines.

https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/australia-facing-very-serious-crisis-amid-astrazeneca-row/ar-AALDtLh?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531

Australia is facing a "very serious crisis" after access to the AstraZeneca vaccine was expanded to people aged under 40, sparking a political divide and heated debate.

Former adviser to Paul Keating and strategic health policy consultant Professor Bill Bowtell told Today communication on the vaccine rollout had "broken down" since the accessibility expansion of AstraZeneca.

"I don't know what's been going on between the National Cabinet and the ATAGI and the chief health officers' committees - but clearly something has gone wrong," he said.
We are facing a very serious crisis. We've got to get a grip.

"There's got to be some order restored to the chaos that's enveloping the technical and medical advice side of this."

While the advice from the ATAGI has not changed, with AstraZeneca recommended for Australians aged over 60, the decision to allow people under 40 to access the vaccine upon consultation with their GP has caused an uproar among state premiers and chief health officers.

Yesterday, Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young was clear in her thoughts on the prime minister's decision to allow younger Australians to get the AstraZeneca vaccine.

I do not want under-40s to get AstraZeneca," she said.

"I don't want an 18-year-old in Queensland dying from a clotting illness who, if they got COVID, probably wouldn't die.

"We've had very few deaths due to COVID-19 in Australia in people under the age of 50. Wouldn't it be terrible that our first 18-year-old in Queensland who dies related to this pandemic died because of the vaccine?"

The Commander of Defence COVID-19 taskforce, Lieutenant General John Frewen, said allowing Australians under 40 to get the AstraZeneca jab was about giving people the right to choose.

"The ATAGI advice has remained unchanged. The medical advice has remained unchanged," he told Today.

"People can make informed consent about whichever of the vaccines are available.

"What the PM announced the other day is those under 40 can make an informed choice with their GP about whether they wish to access AstraZeneca or wait until later in the year for an alternative vaccine.

"I would hope all Australians have the right to make an informed choice about the available vaccines."

Since the prime minister made the announcement, 2616 Australians under 40 have chosen "with informed consent" to have AstraZeneca, Mr Frewen said.

"That's 2600 Australians who feel, right now, they would rather have the available vaccine than wait. I think all Australians have that right."

Former Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Nick Coatsworth said yesterday's explosive comments made by leaders about the AstraZeneca vaccine was "a day that the Australian vaccine campaign didn't need to have".

"I think you've seen a lot of medical leaders, myself included, the College of General Practitioners, distancing themselves from Dr Young's comments," he said.

"We don't need this debate at the moment. We just need to crack on with the vaccination campaign.

"Australians can make the decision to have the AstraZeneca if they're over 18 and a consenting adult."

Leading GP Dr Todd Cameron today took aim at Prime Minister Scott Morrison for opening the floodgates of AstraZeneca use to under 40s, saying it would be best if he did not direct the public health initiative around COVID-19 vaccine advice.

Dr Cameron said advice that AstraZeneca could be administered to those under 40 with consultation with their doctor was "confusing".

a man wearing glasses and looking at the camera: Dr Todd Cameron has urged the prime minister to stop giving vaccine advice.

I'm sure everyone is having a completely different journey regarding looking after your own health and those that are close to you. Bottom line is we're all trying to do the best we can.

Mini rant

As for the border closures I'm beginning to think I'm never going to make it back to sunny Carnarvon. I've twice been booked in to finish a fit out on a yacht and tidy up a few things on the big duck so I to drag her over to Cairns and get her up to Thursday Island. Both times I've been pipped at the post with snap lockdowns.
Faaaaaaark me.....

One day I'll make it back, one day.

Stay safe.

Thu, 2021-07-01 12:28

Felt fine at first then last night started feeling sore over my body, the left arm that got the jab was very tender and have been feeling like Mike Tyson hit me with a big right hook! Had the headache as well, so hopefully the second dose will be easier in September.

I had been holding off having the vaccine, but I work in the health system and the vaccination team were out here at Meekatharra yesterday and when I went to enquire about getting jabbed they said come right in.

Tue, 2021-07-06 10:15

Haven't commented on this thread yet but will now as I just heard on the radio that they were complaining about nursing home workers not being vaccinated even though they were in the first group of people to be offered. What a load of crap my partner works in nursing homes and has been on a waiting list since February she went through her Gp as she has medications that effect her immune system but checked a fortnight ago and is still no closer to getting her jab than she was back in February. My grandmother is in a nursing home and still hasn't had it yet either, the biggest issue here is the complete and utter bull shit the media dribbles.

Yep media is the biggest issue

Tue, 2021-07-06 17:26

If the majority of people could simply come to terms with this, it would at the very least provide a more open discord on the topic and hopefully put more pressure back on the media to start asking questions and providing accurate and informative news to us all.
But we find Big Tech, working in unison with the Mainstream Media, are putting large efforts into censoring, banning, demonitising, cancelling information sources/views/opinions that do not align with their chosen narrative.
And again, regardless of your beliefs on any Covid19, medical, political or other topic, it is a dangerous path allowing these powerful propaganda organisations to weild so much control on what we can discuss/hear/see/read for us to make our own informed judgements.

Long Covid, or long term covid

Tue, 2021-07-06 11:28

is something that everyone should consider.  You may not die, indeed there is a good chance you won't die with modern health care if necessary.  What I am mindful of is the long term effects of this bloody infection.  My son in laws cousin contracted Covid in London in March last year, aged 32, a normal healthy girl.  Ended up in hospital in the UK until Xmas, they flew her home and was hospitalised again in January. Just been discharged and can just walk up and down the stairs to her bedroom at home.  She is a long term Covid patient, her life is just about stuffed.  My grandmother got Spanish Flu in 1919 in Australia, ended up in a wheelchair, 2 of her 4 kids were put in foster care, she committed suicide 7 years later and never got out of the wheelchair.  Very few statistics are available on the percentage of people who contract Covid and the long term effects even if they recover within a week or two.  They need to release statistics about the percentage of severe, moderate and mild long term effects that occur in those people that are infected.  Some info is available, for those interested google long term Covid, it makes interesting reading.  The one thing we do know is that the Jab reduces the severity, and therefore the chance of long term effects.  I don't particularly want to end up buggered and permanently disabled or even partially disabled, let alone the argument about dying. It could stuff up my fishing.

Some good information

Wed, 2021-07-07 10:48

There is an old (old for Covid19) article from Aug '20 that looks at some data from 139k Covid19 deaths (sourced from the US CDC);

https://towardsdatascience.com/covid-19-comorbidities-are-the-elephant-in-the-room-7d185bd6cfe2

If it's too long to read, then at least scroll down and have a quick look at the tables in the article which breaks down the data in to age groups and comorbidities (Note: just 4% or 6%, both numbers are mentioned, of covid19 deaths had no other comorbidities ... meaning if you are healthy, you have very little chance of dying from Covid19).

It will give you some excellent information for you to better understand what risk group you are in.
Many here believe I am strictly anti-vaccines. If you generalise my overall beliefs with vaccines, then I would fall more in the "anti vax" group rather than the pro vaccine group. But Covid19 vaccines (like any vaccines) should not be a tribal belief of just good or bad. That is, when it comes to vaccines, I have always been a horses for courses believer. If a vaccine offers you more benefits than risks, then it's likely the right decision. I agree with health workers choosing to get many vaccines that I would not get. And as I age and in bad influenza seasons, I will consider getting a flu shot.

If you can gather some information about the vaccine risk/benefits and do the same with the virus/disease for you and your current environment, then you are in a much better place to make a good judgement call. If you are in either group of strictly yes or no, then you are being ignorant to some degree.

But much worse than the flu

Wed, 2021-07-07 14:01

Same sort of consideration as getting a flu shot, but more need with Covid, given Covid mortality rate is thought to be substantially higher (possibly 10 times or more) than most strains of the flu.

Ramping puts public health on brink of catastrophe and endless government excuses just won’t fly
Monday July 12, 2021

Dr Mark Duncan-Smith, President, Australian Medical Association (WA)

As the community comes out of another lockdown cycle today, there’s no such relief for those requiring transport by ambulance to one of our public hospital emergency departments.

There is every chance they will face a long and perhaps life-threatening wait while a hospital bed is found for them.

AMA (WA) President Dr Mark Duncan-Smith said the State Government had long run out of excuses for the near-catastrophic congestion that is choking our emergency departments and leading to ambulances endlessly waiting in hospital lines.

Ramping June 2021“Ramping for the first six months of 2021 is almost equal to WA’s total ramping for 2016 and 2017 combined,” he said.

In June, ambulances were ramped outside WA hospitals for a total of 5,293 hours, the first time ever in WA that ramping in a calendar month has exceeded 5,000 hours.

The new record smashes January 2021 ramping (4,153 hours) by 27 per cent.

“It’s telling to recall what then opposition health spokesman Roger Cook had to say about the situation back in 2015,” Dr Duncan-Smith said.

“What we are seeing is a crisis as month after month we have increases in our ambulance ramping right across metropolitan hospitals,” Mr Cook said at the time.

“This situation is out of control and the Minister for Health is simply missing in action, unable to respond to the crisis.”

In October 2016, Mr Cook asked then Health Minister John Day in Parliament about “disastrous ambulance ramping statistics for August and September, the two worst recorded months ever in WA, each with over 2,000 hours…”

“While still unacceptably high, 2,000 hours of ramping would now be considered the good old days by most,” Dr Duncan-Smith said.Rmping

“To add insult to injury, we’ve had every imaginable excuse now that Mr Cook is actually in a position to address the situation.

“The Government can’t just blame mental health attendances for increased ramping rates, for example, as the Premier and the Health Minister are wont to do.

“Since Mr McGowan has been Premier, mental health attendances have increased by less than 14 per cent, while ramping has increased by an eye-watering 375 per cent.

“Moreover, the need to expand and support community mental health services and create a functional mental health system in WA that doesn’t see consumers forced to rely on our EDs has long been recognised by this Government.”

Although there has been an increase in ED presentations, this has been at a steady and predictable level, the AMA (WA) President said.

“There has not been a massive increase in activity and presentations to the emergency department,” Dr Mark Duncan-Smith said.

“Activity pre-COVID in 2018/2019 was growing steadily at about 4 per cent.

“This double-digit dipped in activity in the first half of 2020 due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

“There was then about a 15 per cent increase from that low in 2020 to 2021, back to the predicted activity line from 2018/2019.

“This current activity was predictable and should have been planned for.” Dr Duncan-Smith said activity in public hospitals elsewhere had not rapidly increased.

“Although other states also have ramping problems, we are amongst the worst and we are the State with the $5 billion surplus,” he said. “Health professionals are trying to work here with the lowest number of beds per capita of any state or territory in Australia.

“We have 2.28 beds per 1,000 head of population and would need 440 beds tomorrow to bring us up to the national average.” As the percentage occupancy of a hospital increases, the percentage of elective surgery cases being cancelled increases.

“Optimal occupancy is 90 per cent or less, while we have been running close to 100 per cent and more than 100 per cent continuously for the last six to 12 months,” Dr Duncan-Smith said.

Inevitably members of the WA community would pay the ultimate price for the combination of these various issues, the AMA (WA) President said.

“On some days more than 90 per cent of cases are not being seen in the national standard time,” Dr Duncan- Smith said.

“An Australian study has shown that if a patient presents to an overcrowded ED, there is a 10 per cent increased risk of dying.

“Deaths on the ramp are occurring.

“While there is a parliamentary inquiry currently gathering submissions into the delivery of ambulance services in WA, the AMA (WA) believes the levels of ramping being experienced are not due to the service being provided by St John Ambulance; if anything, our ambulance workers are doing highly professional work in extraordinary circumstances.

“We need a cultural change from fiscal orientation with cost-cutting to a patient-centred orientation about quality and safety of healthcare delivery.

“We needed this several years ago, but through a lack of adequate long-term policy and planning, we have moved from this being a health crisis to the potential for this to be a public health catastrophe.”

 The state government coffers

Tue, 2021-07-20 12:39

The state government coffers are dripping with extra iron ore royalties yet we have this happening. It's a bloody joke and so is the fact that Roger Cook has kept his job. For him to criticise the previous goverment for ramping and then presiding over the worst it has ever been is a disgrace IMO.

Because there's been cases over 2000ks from where I'm at in QLD we're all been tarred with the same brush I'm deemed to be a risk and not welcome. Flip side is I'm spending four days in Cairns minus the wife swanning about....:) Off to Mission Beach today.
