How many Rods do you take out?

Hi All

Just wondering what is common between fisho's when going fishing. When I go out in metro waters I always have 4 rods for myself and 2 for my partner so when you see the boat at the latching ramp you see quite a few rods on the rocket launcher Smile but seriously I have a mixed of braid to mono with different line weights etc.., rods and reels from light action, trolling and jigging (ie. hate chasing fish with oversize tackle... like a whitting on a jigstick lol) Call me keen or a mad fisho but I believe in having a selection of rods to fish with and of course only the best quality too. Money mouth which hurts the pocket, but I am over doing it? , when going north will that is another story Laughing

What do you do?

Cheers

About 6, one for everything.

One for squid, one for light casting tuna slice, one medium popping, one bottom bouncing and two for trolling.

If going bottom bouncing 3,one to use,one rigged as a spare and the other with a lure on to flick at surface fish if they come within casting distance, though on the last 2 trips 6 because mate came along and his gear went south with his boat ready for him to move down there shortly. On the beach or rocks its 3,one for a balloon, one for a lure and the last one for on the bottom,

6 boat limit

Fri, 2009-04-17 09:31

then divide by the number of passengers. If its just me on the water then its 6, if I have a deckie its 3, etc. Sometimes I will blow it out to 8, but I like a clean deck when travelling and don't like to waste time rigging and unrigging outfits between drifts.
Will be taking about 8 rods to Exxy.

Cheers

We take 6 outfits out, 2 overhead outfits for bottom bouncing, 2 spiinning outfits and then 2 light outfits. Like Andy, hate wasting time rigging up. Always have a Halco ready to cast at any surface disturbance Laughing

In my boat

Fri, 2009-04-17 18:57

I max at myself and 2 others onboard and limit it to 2 rods each otherwise is just a s**t mess of rods everywhere.

Usually one for bottom bouncing/trolling, one for throwing plastics etc. But if I have a defined plan/target that doesn't include BB, I'll take 2 flick sticks.

At this stage I have about 12 rods heading to exmouth. Plus buying another one up there....LOL

Land Based

I have six rods in the wrack. That's the extent of my collection. Some days I just stick to a medium and a light; other days I have this sense of anticipation and take at least 4 with me (like last weekend). Most of the time I end up using just 1 or 2 on the day. The neighbours must think I am a real poser when I get the vehicle ready. LOL

I can see quite clearly where you boat people are coming from. It would drive me nuts trying to work out which and why LOL.

Small boats dictate careful

Fri, 2009-04-17 20:48

Small boats dictate careful selection. On my 4.6m I usually take 2 rods. A med egg beater, and a med-heavy OH (Penn 330 LD) both with 40-60lb braid cover me nicely. Any more is "showing off" IMO.

70% of time I use the egg beater as they are convenient, powerful and flexible enough for a wide variety of applications...caught some hooter fish on my good old egg beater.  (Pfluger Medallist)

shite guys on my boat we

Fri, 2009-04-17 22:25

shite guys on my boat we normally have our rod rack full (holds 8) plus ones we are using plus sometimes we have a couple down below.

1 bottom bashing each plus at least 4 spare , light gear for whiting and so forth plus at least 2 trolling rods and usually 2 spinning

so sometimes up to 16 rods per trip, but that is for 3 or 4 of us

Man, I need some more gear Tongue out. One for BBing, one for trolling and one light outfit in case we go for bait fish or estuary (if it blows up). That works well as my rocket launcher holds six. The wife (my usualy deckie) uses two - so that leaves one spot for a light medium outfit.

Down to personal preference, but, like Andy, I like an uncluttered deck.

i Normaly take 7. one 10kg game outfit for trolling, a 50lb bottom bouncing rod, a 20lb outfit for balooning while bottom fishing, a flick stick for dropping live bait jigs and doubles as a soft plastic rod, a spinning reel for throwing lures at tuna schools ect. a 2kg outfit for a bit of fun and a fly rod just for a change.

unless im chasing barra then its just two 20lb rigs and the fly rod.
