How to atttract sharks

Hi all,

A fairly straightforward one. Keen to hear your recommendations on getting the big toothies in to shore. I'll be ballooning live baits and dead baits along the coast between Leeman and Arrowsmith.

I usually fish with tuna oil...but was wandering what is ideal in the water? Is it worth purchasing a load of ox heart and other bloody meats to cloud up the water? Will any other species be attracted to this or will it typically scare the rest off?

I'm not worried what make of shark - just hoping to attract something of reasonable size up to a couple of metres.

Thanks,

Buschy

catch alot of fish and get

catch alot of fish and get yourself  the manual berley grinder online and grind it into paste into a big bucket, you can pretty much chuck anything bloody in, make sure you check with regulations in the area your fishing before you chum up the place.

hey mate, I basically save

hey mate, I basically save up all my old bait then when we have serious shark sesh we put it all through a meat grinder, into a heshan bad and let what roll around in the wash on a rope. Between a few of us we normally manage to get at least ten kilos of old fish and guts etc so that lasts a while. brings in the rays big time as well... some fish shops will give you their old guts and heads if you catch em at the right time so can use that as well, I tried once getting a heap of old off cuts from a butcher at work but was a heap of effort and didnt pay off so never bothered again.

I reckon the main thin in attracting the sharks is live bait though.

Cheers guys

Thanks guys. I've gone done the whole fish frame angle in the past without much luck but am liking what I here about minced all sorts and plenty of blood. Certainly rays are abundant where I will be fishing so sacrificing a smaller one is an option.

I'll have a chat with a few people about getting my hands on some nasty stuff to throw in the water!

I'll also check into the local regs re: chum, although the beach I intend to target is very isolated and there will not be any swimmers. However, heaps of seals through that area so that is another consideration.

Cheers,

Buschy :-)

or a political or lawyers convention.

On a more serious note. Cubed up old mulies seems to bring a few sharks around.

Dont want to be a kill joy !

But should we be really trying to attract sharks into the shallows ?

I for one would greatly appreciate if they stayed out nice and wide !

Of course

Fri, 2010-08-27 11:22

This is not something I would be doing in metro waters or any populated area. I'll be at least 20-30k from the nearest civilisation, on a weeded up beach in the middle of winter. I've been up this way and not seen someone on the beach for 24h+ and this was in summer!

Your point is valid though and certainly need to think about trying to attract sharks carefully. As mentioned above their are also shire laws against the practice in some places too.

Blood meal?

Mon, 2010-08-30 15:34

Hi folks. I've put a few kilos of beef liver through the food processor today. Doesn't smell so great but it should help bring them in!

Has anyone tried using blood meal before? As it is dried I'm worried about the effectiveness of it.

I've been in touch with one abattoir and they can supply me with blood meal - but not blood. I'll check in with a butcher and ask what they can do for me.

Cheers :-)
