Halco Max

Hi, Happy New Year to you all.

I am keen to have a crack at some Mackies behind the 3 mile over summer and autumn. My plan is to troll an array of lures from deep diving minnows (X-Rap and F-18) up to skirts on top. I am considering using the Halco Max as a mid-water lure to sit between the deep and shallow set lures.

Just wondering if anybody has any experience using these lures as they are fairly new onto the market. They appear to fit the bill and look a nice lure................ but do they catch fish?

Any input would be appreciated.

Cheers Steve

catch fish from landbased but not heard anyone trolling them (as yet).

given the rest of Halco lure reputation then they will work well and good $$ to purchase

nothing like a good old experiment so I would by the fusiler style and send it out in the spreed......also troll well at speed.

I took a gold one up to Gnaraloo in June 2008. Looked the goods, but it didn't get a hit when trolled. Soon gave up with it and went back to skirts and 190's with immediate success. Go figure - but they must work right?!?!

X-raps

People swear by the x-raps, but I've never caught anything on either the blue or the green ones. They've been retired to my 'non-successful' box now because they just don't catch for me, even though I know plenty of other people have success on them...

I've got the red head/silver tail one and a blue/silver/red belly one which I've trolled for a lot of hours for one mackerel between them. Other diving lures (F18's, Halcos and x-raps) were consistently getting fish at the time so my confidence in them is not all that high. I usually only clip one on now if trolling skirts and want a deeper option in the spread.
Funny you say that about X-raps Adam, I've had 2 of the green (dolphin fish colours) and lost both getting smoked back to the reef on their maiden swims. Just landed a greedy little trout the other day on the biggest x-rap in silver and orange stripes. If I was towing lures for macks etc at the moment it's Halco 5m in king brown or x raps for me.
