Getting fisted……

Leading on from Adam's guess the car quote game I thought why not chuck up some more examples of getting bent over for no apparent reason apart from greed and opportunistic behavior.

My latest example of Thursday Island booze shopping.

$90 for 16 cans of Little Creature Pale ale........

Tasted damn good.

That was the cute little box it came in. Was the only one left and I'd rather pay that price than do the unthinkable and drink XXXX!.

Giving half the weeks wage for food shopping is getting fisted enough. Also having to pay for servicing and tyres on the old car when we were promised the new one in December which has now blown out to October this year, which will be 13months after ordering.

Price hikes all over the place. Just the last couple of days I have got a few things from Coles and woolies,  only getting the regular stuff I buy and all the prices have gone up by at least 35 cents. Don't sound much but it all adds up in the end to the grocery bill.

Fuel in hedland today was at $2.09

 Fuel

Generally at the fuel prices because if I need it, i get it, or business stops. Today though i did notice the bp sign for $2.40 p/l for premium mind you WTF! also seeing a differance of up to 20c p/l between stations . I thought it was regulated ,though it seems as long as you publicise a price , it can be whatever they want.

BEER

gone of the days carrying a carton or block back home from the bottleo and lightening the load as you go, now you buy a little square slab , put it in the basket on the front of your bike or your back pocket and you are away.

PS some of those little 16 packs taste damn fine!!

FISH

price per Kg i think is quite low considering the quantity you collect off of 1 specimen and what it takes to get them (for some) as compared to beef or lamb/mutton etc which yield far greater quatinty of flesh per unit and are dropped with a lead or bolt to the head .  Shop prices can be half- 3/4 that per kg of what fish is.

To be honest, I cant believe how many people never use fuel watch but still complain about the price.

Even if you cant be bothered filling at another servo you can still see in advance if will be dearer or cheaper tomorrow

Fri, 2022-03-11 21:30

I towed and parked my 3.5ton boat to work with me today so I could fill up at Costco on the way home. When you need 300ltrs a saving of $0.47 per litre compared to my local shell servo equals a saving of $140! Well worth the effort!

Sat, 2022-03-12 06:14

Even more amazing is they tested Fuelwatch in some Eastern States and it was ridiculed.

Without the legislation to force;

  • once per day price changes at 06:00 (I think)
  • manditory notification by 4 pm prior

It would never work.

In my mind it was done quite cleverly here in WA, and is the best way to pressure companies (and empower buyers) short of simply setting a price

yeah its a must for me Rob, with 20 fuel stations within a 5k radius and such a variation in price why wouldn't you...save $5 as a minimum it buys me a coffee.

Big jump in the food shop. $30 increase per week easy atm.

Not sure if I'm reading the real-estate crap right, I cant see no big jump in house prices ? But with our state boarders finally opening that's bound to change.

 Established properties close

Fri, 2022-03-11 16:06

Established properties close to the city, beach etc. have definitely moved significantly. Land prices are starting to move but the fringes are always the last to see it. That's the industry I work in. Expect to see some bigger land price rises this year. Established properties have gone up (and are going up more because of build costs, hassles etc.), rents have gone up, house prices have gone up massively and there's been almost no increase in land prices. Our costs have risen and going further so margins have been eroded badly. Affordability is the big loser.

 The main issue is logistics

Fri, 2022-03-11 16:10

The main issue is logistics and supply, Orrcon sent me an email the other day  regarding the floods and more rail damage holding up delivery here.

United Steel who a lot of there product are blaming a log jam in Singapore. I've had to get creative with jobs and use alternate sizes, luckily my engineer is good like that he'll just re calc to suit.

Update : NSW Rail Outage and road impacts on the Salisbury Tube Production

Dear Valued Customer,

We provide an update to our previous notification about the impact of the recent flood event on our Salisbury operations.

We have been advised that the rail line from Port Kembla through to Brisbane which carries our coil, has been cut in 16 places through NSW taking several days and in some hard-hit areas possibly a week to repair.

Our Salisbury site has sufficient coil stocks if the rail repairs are completed in the time frames advised, so our production schedules will continue largely unchanged. We will advise if the rail repairs take longer than expected and how that might impact our operations.

Significant flooding has also affected major road transport routes south which has disrupted our dispatch programs. Our transport providers are utilizing alternative routes, however there is a shortage of suitable vehicles that will impact on some delivery time frames.

Our Distribution Centres inventory levels remain strong and we expect to be able to fill a majority of customer orders.

Contact your Account Manager or Branch Manager for further information relating to local supply.

Kind Regards

Tony Schreiber

TLC in O'connor mate...I have been going there for over 10 years.

Jason and the team- good honest blokes. Where he can he gets the same mechanic to work or my 100 series. It has helped pick a few things up over the journey.

They only work on Landcruisers/toyota 4x4. I'd trust them any day over any other (especially the "Oil and Filter" changout technicians at most dealerships.

You need to book WELL in advance though, the only downside. To their credit they could have capitalised and made a much bigger operation years ago, but have remained all about the customer.

Cheers

Try buying a “cheap” car

Sun, 2022-03-13 12:39

Sons girlfriend had accident last week and wrote her car off. She is ok however she needs transport for uni and work , and with her living in Kardinya and the boy here in Carine it's a necessity . So have spent last couple of days looking at cars for her , like I30 huyundai and Corolla etc.

I can tell you that $10 - 12k doesn't buy you much at all at that price point that's not hit high kms or a dud...sold my wife's old car after she bought a new one just before Covid for $6k which I was very happy to get .. would be paying $10k for it now nearly 3 years later if I tried to buy it back !

Got a vacuum hose for the outboard.

350mm long - $112!!!

Even the guy behind the counter choked!..

All because I was impatient and didn't use pliers to gently remove it, just pulled it coz there was no clamp on it.... $%@&!

And no, couldn't join it or get automotive, it runs from EMM to exhaust port. Heat and chemical resistant!!
