Freams 4500j with Starlo???
Submitted by Blake.T. on Sun, 2008-02-24 10:13
Hey guys i am in a bit of a dillema.
I am going to buy a 9' starlo and i was wondering what reel i should get for it. I was thinking a Freams/Capricorn 4500J and have 15lb on one and PE3/4 on the other spool. Then i can use the freams for light jigging, casting poppers up north etc on another shorter rod and still have it for the starlo. I am not sure if the freams would balance the starlo nicely (or be suited to casting). So i was wondering if anyone has used this combo or had experience would be able to put their opinion in.
Cheers guys

Would you say they are better than the capricorn/freams. They look sweet. Do campbells have them, if so whats the price like on them?
Cheers mate.

You cant get the Freams J in
You cant get the Freams J in Oz. The Capricorn is the exact same reel but better equipped with all the essential bearings and a spare spool to boot. I had the Freams J before they released the Capricorn here. That handled up to 50lb braid easily. Not really suitable for spinning due to the short handle. Ive since replaced it with a Saltiga Blast and now 2 Stella 8000's.
If you're not sure if the combo is right, try it out in the shop.

I run
I run 30lb power pro on it and the rod is a 1 of a kind, one of the concept rods Ian bailey made when helping out with the deseign of the Van Staal rods.
