Fishing trip part 1, Cairns 2 Darwin
Hey guys!
Me and my mate are travelling from Cairns 2 Darwin, leaving in 20 days. We are armed with a 3.3m tinny 8 horse, 2 game rods, 2 spin rods, cast net and a shit load of lures. We driving with a station wagon, unfortunally no 4x4..
We drive first on the savannah higway to Normanton down to mount Isa up to Darwin. I know there are so many good spots to go fishing. And we love to have some great info about good places/good spots! Maybe you guys who been somewhere can help us!?
Any tips about where to go in normanton?
Barra fishing around Katherine ? Wich are the good fishing rivers?
Fishing in Kakadu national park, is it safe to boat with a 3.3 tinny between the crocs? Or shall we just keep it land based of the rockwall in the south aligator river?
And I bet there plenty of other good rivers on the way; you guys can help me out with some names?
Arriving in darwin we gonna explore all the good spots! And take a drive to the Mandorah jetty where I was doing last year some good land based fishing!
I'm gonna make a blog with all the places where we go and all the fish what/where we cath with lot of pictures for the people who may be interested?!
ps,Next trip is gonna be Darwin 2 Perth!

Last year I also travelled
Last year I also travelled from Cairns to Darwin;
Cairns, Townsville,Mount Isa, Tennant Creek, Katherine all the way up. I was probally travelling during September and little bit October. The weather was still really dry, hot and often getting humit.
Now I'm doing a a piece of the Savanah High Way. All the roads we drive is gonna be sealed. So should be allright! I just hope the wet season starts late again!

The boat I bought is a
The boat I bought is a allyminium boat with a 8 horsepower for 700 $! So far the boat diddn't leak or sink and the motor starts after 2 pulls!
When I bought the boat and it was laying in my backyard it was bigger than I expected! So we had to figure out how to build to boat safe on the car. We extended the roofracks with allyminium bars. And the boat just fits on the car now!
Before I leave I wanna give the enginge a quik service. And buy some spare parts.
Where I live are also crocs on the river and enough smaller tinny's cruizing down the river. I never saw the really big crocs like around Darwin. But I know there are a few 3 meter ones in the river. I'm not really scared here to go out on my boat because it is a pretty wide river, so i won't anoye crocs on the river bank.
What do you guys really think about boating between crocs?

Dont worry about crocs if you
Dont worry about crocs if you are in a populated area. They are familiar with boats and usually quite shy.
However, I would not be too keen on going out in ya little boat in the dark

You won't see me cruzing down
You won't see me cruzing down the river at night time in my tinny, thats for sure!
I bet still there were croc attacks on tinnys, I heard a guy was taken on his tinny in Broome last year. I thought he just lost an arm or a leg..
I guess they are quite shy of the enigine sound but still if your drifting? hmm..

I fish the Daly River in
I fish the Daly River in Darwin every year.
There are hundreds of Grey Nomads in their little 12 foot tinnies zipping up and down the river, tied to the snags and drowning their cherabin.
None of them are worried at all about crocs, I have even seen what look like 10 foot tinnies with the old buggers in them cruising around the crocs which are at least twice the size of their boat.
But, this is a popular place and the crocs have learnt to keep away (but some are a bit cocky and not scared).
I reckon if you are around other boats, its ok. I would be a bit wary in isolated areas.
