Fishing politics
I'm not going to add any more comment on the subject except to say that what is going on, or has gone on this forum isn't Fishing Politics, is just opinion, and some pretty ratbag.
The trouble is that WA anglers, just cannot get into line on these matters, and really don't understand the way to get better results.
That is get really involved in the real politic of Rec Angling, like join The Fishing Party.
There is only one way to attack this issue and thats at Political level. Rec anglers in WA aren't represented by anyone, or any organisation of any strength, because the numbers of anglers far out weigh the numbers of members of the various organisations claiming to represent the anglers. and when did they ask you your opinion or give you a vote.
During the Labor Govs term, RecFish West fronted the Minister to put their view ion the Fishery problem. He asked how many members thay had, like 200 odd. His view was "Get over 1000 and then come talk to me". Which started a membership drive.
In other words you aren't or haven't been represented anywhere, and have no real view. Basically because you have no valid vote on anything. When did you ever go to a meeting on this subject and actually have a say or a vote, and when will it ever happen?
A Fishing Party with 500 members can set up a registered political party in WA and be active at a real political level. And each member has one vote at any meeting, you don't have some guy representing you and voting his opinion, not yours. And your members can actually stand for seats in the parliament.
An example, take Recfish West, it has a ANSA delegate on the council, who has been voted in by whom and what is ANSA in WA anyway? A dead or dying association that exists in just 3 boat Clubs, 2 in the north and one at Cockbourn. There is not one dedicated ANSA Sportfishing Club in WA, that I can trace anyway. And I have done a lot off searching and asking around.
Whom does Steven Guilders represent on the RecFish West Council????? He has been a rep on that council you more years than you can count on both hands. And does RecFish West care whom he represents. Not likely because, as a member, I asked the question. But he's on their council with a vote. What have you got. I asked because I'm a member of RecFish West but the interest I got was like "Duuuuuh, We don't elect or get interested in delegates". Well who does care whom the delegate represents? A valid organisation or scotch mist.
I think thats a good question which kind of points out who represents whom.
And a Political Party can have a genuine political agenda, like wanting a better constitution for WA, not one from the 1860's and which will force Govs to adhere to the public wishes, like refrendums, which are a joke here.
There have been 3 on Daylight saving, and ALL said NO but we now have a 3 year trial, so what were the refrendums about and who paid the bills. Like YOU.
And of course the latest change of the voting system, all without asking the voters if thats what they wanted, which concentrated the votes in the metrop area and left the rest of WA without more that a few representatives in the House. The WA Government vote on anything is based on a Metropolitan Agenda. Stuff the rest of the State, who the hell are they.
The Fishery is controlled by Politics, as are Fisheries and which party is out there with Fisheries as part of their agenda. Like Labor, do they have a agenda on the state of the Fishery, or the Libs, the Nationals or the Greens. If they had their way they would ban it. If they cared Fisheries would be fully funded and staffed.
Did anyone get up and push for better deals for the Fishery, in the last election, did the Fishery get any more that a 30 second thought.
The Commercial sector has an voice, but you, nada brother. You are a dumb dickhead, or thats what you are regarded as.
This is my last word on this subject, and all it amounts to this "On your own head be it ,now and in the future".
The road is in front of you, try walking it for a change.

Roger, obviously someone didn't get the memo that the fishing politics (sorry, opinion) threads have been done to death recently. Will see how long it lasts before needing lockdown.

Righton!! If we can leave
Righton!! If we can leave the political BS out one of these forums (preferably this one cos it rocks and is already on the right track) we can have a place where we can talk less of the former and more of the latter of this thread (oh and fishing).

After that lot I can
After that lot I can honestly say that no one has ever thought about it seriously, except to oppose the idea, and then mostly to protect the status quo.
If you have anything to say you get banned and/or abused. And don't I know about that.
You have a choice in life, and some choices, fed to you by vested interests who just keep on keeping on year in year out without anything happening one way or the other.
What has happened on the good side of WA fishing in the last 30 years. Like something that pleases you. Bag limits have gone on going down, more restrictions, the fishery declines continuously and it lands on your head. While those working on your behalf keep beavoring away happily. But what happens to you and your fishing.
Lets face facts, the WA rec fisher opposes anything and everything that might do him some good regardless of the reasons for or against.
You never know you might get some advantages by having an active registered political party which, if it joined up with other parties, with similar agendas, could actually change things. Desn't change mean anything. YOu haven't any basic rights now. The Government can do anything, anything at all, and its all out of your control, totally.
The Laborites changed the voting rules to get rid of the Nationals as a political force in WA. They did it to reduce the voting power of the country while compressing the city vote and as a consequence reduce the Nationals scope. It was done deliberatly to reduce the Liberals effect in the Government.
And look at the way the last election was called, quite sneaky wasn't it. But it fell in a heap because the people are not all that dillish really and now the Nats are biting their balls off, aren't they. And you have a new Government.
Which just goes to show that even a few seats can change things, and if you are on the winning side, you get things, quite often really large things.
But right now, you aren't on any side, are you, you are on the losing side if you want the truth, and thats where you have been and will stay if you keep on listening to the crap fed down your throat.
When did Rec fishing ever win anything. Its lose, lose, lose until the thing folds up.

Cmon guys, time
we started taking this topic seriously. There is still much we dont know about rubber chicken is a popular sight gag and slapstick comedy prop, sometimes used by comics to hit people. They are also sometimes used by jugglers in place of clubs. The origins of the rubber chicken are obscure.
One account attributes its creation to Joseph Grimaldi, the legendary white-faced clown of the early 1800s. At that time, gluttony was fashionable and considered a sign of affluence, and Grimaldi would perform with his pockets full of fake food in order to make fun of the upper classes.[1]
Another account, which is printed on the tag of rubber chickens manufactured by Archie McPhee, claims that the use of the rubber chicken originated during the French Revolution with soldiers hanging a rubber chicken from their muskets for luck and thats why we need more scientific study on Dhui's.

Maybe we're just looking for
Maybe we're just looking for a forum where we can talk about just fishing and the experience along the way without the political issues clouding it. There are other forums avalable which tackle these issues and create awareness (of which myself and many other fishwrecked users are menmbers of), Yes I am a recfish member and I wrote a submission on the last paper and have my regular bitch around the place, not snoozing just taking some time out. Here I like to kick back and have some fun. Obviously I'm not the site admin but not all forums are your soapbox fellas (as I get down off mine).

No-one is forcing anyone to
No-one is forcing anyone to read any of these posts.

No-one is forcing anyone to click on the links in them.
No-one is forcing anyone to comment on them.
This Fishwrecked site reaches so many real fishermen and women in WA, and some of those don't read the other forums.
It would be a sad day when or if ever the people who read this forum can't be informed about what's going on in fisheries and environmental management changes which affect THEIR fishing, and can't ask questions or discuss these in a reasonable and cooperative way.
Coz then the first they might know is a great big new "no fishing" sign on their favourite fishing spot, or a visit from a Fisheries or Dept Environment and Conservation boat with a ticket and fine for fishing in a closed area or for catching/keeping fish they aren't allowed to.
Then watch the screams of "why wasn't I told about this before???" and looking for someone to blame.

I do agree with
You blokes about the need to change, about the mistakes of the past, the increase in technology etc and so on.
No disrespect to you informed and influential members of the fishing fraternity, but on forums like this where there are so many opinions and attitudes, a lot of the good stuff gets lost in the bs.
Some clear, conscise ways the average Joe can make a difference would be great. Instead of heavy-on-the-attitude post about how it was, and what we said, and who's going to be saying i told you so.
Some clear, informed ways, where the average Rec fisho, who realises there is a problem, but doesn't know what he/she can do to make some kind of differance would be good.
