 The skin was like a leather jacket . The dorsal and the fin looking things under the belly were like bone.

 That's the old green eyed yellow tail black tip silver jacket Russ , pretty obvious really !!!!

I believe it to be a Yellow Tripodfish . Tripodichthys angustifrons.

Can be caught from around Exmouth to Brisbane area on the east coast.
