Favourite Barra Lure

Just wondering what your favourite barra lure is and what sort of success you've had on it. It's the one fish I can't wait to crack, might have to come and visit you Karratha boys soon. Any pics would be great too.

Cheers,
Adam

Classic lures classic barra

Classic lures classic barra in 1,2 and 3metre modells. All three sizes as well work great! Ive caught (best to date) 123cm saltie on a classic barra 120 and the smallest being 58cm on the same lure. Go the gold and black or red and black for dark water and clearer blue water go the rainbow and black and purple chrome! They are the bomb and no barra chaser i know doesnt have them in there lure box. The next best IMO are tilsen barras in yellow and RMG scorpins in the 120 and red colours> Ill post up some pics tonight if you wish. Hope that helps Adam.

Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!

BARRA

The Gold Bomber long "A" 6 inch has probably caught more barra than any other lure.....however...

Despite what the packet says, there is no best lure for barra. Different lures work better in different situations, and you should make your decision based on the conditions and then fish confidently with it.

Most of us go for our favourite lure first. There’s no problem there because we’re using it with confidence, but don’t get tunnel vision and refuse to try something different if the conditions don’t suit the lure. For instance, don’t get stuck on a lure like the Gold Bomber. The Gold Bomber is one of the greatest barra lures ever, but if the fish are feeding on a rock bar in 20 feet of water, trolling your Gold Bomber won’t produce the goods. (Some of you may be thinking that nobody would do that, but you do see it happen.)

Some of the first choices up here for casting are Gold Halco Scorpions, Tilsans, Nils Master Spearheads and Prawnstars. For the deeper trolling applications, proven lures include Deep Diving Scorpions, Mann’s 20s, and River Rats. Having said that, it’s certainly not unheard of for barra to be caught on a two-dollar scab-bin half-bred lure!

A trend that’s catching on is the art of jigging for barra with soft plastics and other jigs. Fish in the deeper holes that can’t be targeted with conventional trolling lures can certainly be bumped on the head with a Prawnstar or lead head jig. If the fish are in the mood to sit and watch, they won’t be able to resist a territorial smashing of a jig that gets in their face

Agree with Sean. You need to have a collection of different colours, depths, actions etc.. and find which ones work best in the given conditions and location.

Some of the popular lures are, RMG Scorpions, Reidy's B52's, Classics, Gold Bombers etc...

Rapala Skitter Pops

Wed, 2007-09-26 13:27

I've caught hundreds of Barra (never cracked the magic one metre though) with the green skitter pop in NT.

Most water was land based, small creeks in the late arvo.  You can not beat the visual of a bow wave behind your lure with the anticipation of it about to be smashed within the next second.  Or your lure being engulfed as in rolls back into the water from the opposite bank

Warning though - Johnsons (fresh water crocs) love them too

Cheers Pete

i guess you look at the lures that have made a name for them selves over the years.  scorpians classics and bommers all have that reputation.  I caught my first ever barra as a young bloke on a gold bommer.  my old lady swears by the redhead scorpion, i guess she can with fish like this one produced over the yearsAnother barra

My favourite though would have to be the reidies little lucifer or taipan or the classic+3

And yes adam, you should come up for a trip mate

Little Lucifer worked well for me last week. Popular lures in the billabong.
