Earthworms??

This is probably a stupid question... but can earthworms be used as a saltwater bait? Maybe for species like whiting? I understand the worms wouldn't live long in salt water, although has anyone tried it, if so have you had any success?
Cheers.

Used to use them for sand
Used to use them for sand whiting with average success, might aswell just go and get bloodworms and double your catch rate

they are ok in the salt, but
they are ok in the salt, but yeah they die very quickly. i've had pretty good success on them for gardies, but thats about it. you are probably better off with bloodworms as flangies said.

does anyone know where you can catch blood worms or sand worms around the metro area?
i know you need to throw burley/fish/something smelly over the sand and look for the holes, just wondering if you can catch them around here.

Digging with a shovel (waist deep) on the east side of the Canning river bank just South of Canningbridge will get you fresh bloodworms. Awesome bait for YF whiting, gardies, herring & bream etc......bait bycatch is pippies also!
