Crabbing in Mandurah

Hi everyone. I was thinking of going scooping for crabs on the cornor of south yunderup road.  Just asking if the crabs are doing well and what time to go. I know it is a bit late to ask but hoping for a quick response! Plz don't send anything through past 10am.

Sorry I forgot to ask if the crabs had been a little mutated or something. Some mates mentioned something like That but I would like your opinion on if they were safe to eat.

...do some research, he's a young kid just starting out. Lachie, nothing wrong with the Mandurah crabs and scooping should pay off for you at the moment although I couldn't tell you exactly where to go. Been spending a lot of time fishing the flats for whiting in the Coodanup/Wannanup areas lately and have seen very few big crabs so either I'm in the wrong places or not looking hard enough!

Coodanup

This is the first year i've crabbed so done a couple of trips down to coodanup over the last few weekends to scoop first thing in the morning and haven't got many size crabs, plenty of crabs undersize by around 5mm but only a handful of size ones for myself. Been out in the spots where everyone else has been around so guessing its pretty pressured, though good to see the high number of juvi crabs for next year

sorry to the now mutilated crab I put a rockhopper spike through its head but you were too well hidden in the weed

Thanks

Thanks for the pointers Lachie.. will have to give it a shot... need a few more to add to those in the freezer for a good feed.

looking at the maps we weren't that far away from that spot.. probably 500M east... actually worked away from there yesterday as I saw a heap of people there and figured any were probably taken... obviously everyone's there for a reason!

We did also try the end of john street... that area wasn't holding many... not enough weed and mud i think compared to further west.. go west!

 When crabbing go to about

Sun, 2014-02-02 21:04

When crabbing go to about knee to waist deep water because in closer the crabs are undersized. Crabs are everywhere! When looking in the reeds and seaweed you will find heeps of crabs. You may even step on some. If you think about it there is enough crabs to give about 10 or so people a good feed on both Saturday and Sundays so they must have some hiding places. So when searching make sure you look hard.
