Colour UNDERWATER camera, c your dhufish befor you catch it

Over the last few months ive been workin on rigging up an underwater camera for my boat that i could just drop down to the bottom and see whats down there. It proved difficult to find the right underwater camera as i wanted something that could go deep. I managed to source a 12v colour camera that drops down to 40m. the camera droped on its own gives a nice birds eye view of the bottom (very clear in good conditions). I also wanted to have a horizontal view of the bottom which ment a case had to be made out of stainless steel and lead to weigh it down. the camera has a 12v power input (cigaret lighter) and also has one video output(yellow plug). the camera connects to a video capture card that plugs into the laptop. this way anything i see on the bottom i can record it (up to 120gb worth). both laptop and camera are rigged with 12v plug which means there is no need for any batteries. the other nice thing about oziexplorer is that i can waypoint the spot im recording on and attatch the video file to the waypoint...

I posted this up because i think its a pretty cool gadget and it took along time to get set up , also any advice for modifications or other ideas would be much appreciated..

cheers

Nice setup youve put together.

Getting a decent camera seems to be the hard part. Any info on the one you have found? 40m is a good depth most only seem rated to 20m.

My underwater camera is a tube camera the same as yours omly white! but with only a short lead on it but I beleive I can get them with longer leads if required but it only cost's about $300 in colour you can also get them with infra red led's I can follow up with my suppliers if anyone is interested, certainly be cheaper than $650.00

there are cheaper camera's

Tue, 2009-06-09 21:04

there are cheaper camera's out there but this particular one has the infa red LED's and produces really clear quality image. I might have paid more then the going rate im not sure but i wanted something of quality and depth caipabilities... at the time it was the only camera i found that had what i wanted... my mate has modified his and has had it to 60m but i think ill stick to the 40m spec's

HELL SETUP

Wed, 2009-06-10 18:16

thats a hell setup, not just for fish also for crays, see a nice edge on the sounder and drop the camera down to see if its loaded or not, youd have a big advantage especially late in the season when crays are hard to find!
