Just thinking of going to the Cocos Islands on a holiday with some fishing attached. Anyone have any information etc that could assist.
Cheers all

cocos keeling
have been to cocos island
the flats fishing is probably some of the best in the world. Bones, trevs of all sorts and even spanyids and large barracuda patrol the area. Outside the reef you can expect everything else, all your bills and palagics as well as some bottom fishing if your into it.
pretty awesome place thats for sure, you will have a ball

Is it a good spot for a holiday with the kids. Not into the ***** resorts etc, but what if you dont fish.

I know they filmed an episode or two of FWA there Neels
If I can find my copy I will send it to you.
As Brad said the flats fishing looked awesome and they were catching some serious GTs from the local jetty at night. Steve Correia might be worth having a chat to.

I have that one but it is a Christmas Island Special
I think Steve and Ian Sewell where using big poppers for GT etc. That was Xmas Island I am certain.

You are probably right Neels I am always getting those two mixed
up. I would be stoked to go to either of them.

My girlfriend and her family were lucky enough to live there. She is continuously talking about how fantastic it is in terms of fishing. Trevally, barracuda, Sweetlips Wahoo, Spaniards, paddle tail, Maori wrasse are just a few of the species she said are easy to catch.

I stopped off at Cocos
I stopped off at Cocos before I fished Christmas Island.
Good flats fishing as most people mentioned. Awesome fly fishing fishery.
It certainly is a more tourist destination than Christmas Island.
Good family destination... great for snorkelling!

Yep stayed on Cocos for 2 weeks
More of a holiday destination with fishing taking a bit of a back seat personally, as it will be hard to get out on any boats unless you know the locals. Saying that, there are plenty of shore based options and yeah, definately some of the best flats you will find. The charters over there are run by the Malay's on 'Home' island, if you go you will be staying on 'West' island. One of the most awesome places you will ever encounter tho as some of the scenery will blow you away.
I've drooled over DazSamFishing's pics from Christmas Is. posted last week and would recommend stopping over there first as it is on the way, that is if you are dead keen on a 'fishing' trip! I wish i had!!! Saying that i had a mint time over there, it is expensive to fly and also food shop but booze is tax free and you feel like your in paradise every minute.
Plan your trip is the best advice i could give, get cozy with the locals as they know everything to do with best spots lures etc! Fish encountered over there are Wahoo, Sails, Dogtooth, YFT, Marlin, Barracuda, GTs, Bluefin trevally, Sweetlip, Maori Wrasse, Coral Trout and plenty of sharks.
If you need any help with accomodation, a mate's gf's folks run castaway acc over there can get you any info you need.
