Gday Crew,
I`ve got a WB Dory that has served me well up until now but am thinking about down sizing to something that can be roof topped... Those that have them what are the go? I want as big as possible without loosing the ability to drag up n down a beach and load/unload easily... Would you buy again what you own now or have you spotted something better on the market...

I travelled around WA with a Fish Nipper Quintrex 3.5m, It was a good choice for me, I used from the big rivers up north to more than a few miles off shore chasing Mackies, Sailfish etc.
I would simply have the bow facing away from the car and lift it up until it tipped over over the roof rack, then go to the back and lift up the rear and slide onto the roof racks. Just a simple setup that worked fine for me, and I could easily do it alone. I was towing a Camper trailer, and wanted my boat on top so I could leave the camp set for the family whilst I went fishing alone. Its easy if you are fit and able and your 4wd isn't too high. I would drop the boat and gear at the fishing launch spot with gear and fit the outboard. I mounted the 15hp outboard on a bracket behind the tailgate, bolted/ padlocked down of course.

11 ft
Have had a couple and find 11ft best,
1 man can wrestle it up and down from a high roof rack.
12ft will give heaps more fishing room but will need 2 people to handle up-down from racks.

G'day Tim,You should have
G'day Tim,
You should have had a spin in my 3.7 Dart at Waroora...goes sweet with just me and the young fella in it...Nice and deep for heading out a bit....easy enough to pull up the beach with 2 people and is just about as big as I'd want to put on the roof.
But it is 2 person lift up onto the roof...my missus (5'4") does it easy!
A lot of oldies at 14 mile use them...

I used to work at OL Welshpool a few years back and the other bloke in the workshop, with his old man (in the vid) developed these boat loaders. We were operating them with battery drills but look to have improved their design. Still a roof rack and a 1 man operation....

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

If you want to keep the weight down, but have a good size car topper, then have a look at some of the glass car toppers like the cross-x-country. They do a 4.1 the same wieght as most 3.7 tinnies.

Yeah spotted them in a 4wd
Yeah spotted them in a 4wd mag recently could be worth a bit of research...
After looking on the net at prices of some second handies I think I`m better sticking with the Dory and keep doing what I have been for the past 14 years with it...
I did have big plans of 4 wheel motor bike etc to take away camping so the dingi could have gone above it on a trailer. Prolly just too much time at work to dream...
