Broadband Sounder Pics

Still trying to get the hang of the sounder, but so far getting some reasonable results. These are a few snapshots taken off a recording I did the other week.

I absolutely love the feature that lets you mark waypoints from the sounder. No more having to drive back along a snail trail to find a lump, this thing solves that problem very nicely.

The last pic being the result from the first spot.

sounder pics

Great images Andy alsmost like the  book pictures, i have been using my broad band and LCX 37 with similar results i bought the unit just before the exmouth trip and only afterwards found out about using brown for the bottom and all the others colours for fish, i have yet tried using the manual zoom as you have shown in yours, some times its easier to use the 4 x zoom. i will post my pics to show my results but i find you do need some good ground to train yourselve in driving the unit to its maximum ability, it would be good to see other peoples results

Screen Resolution!

Mon, 2009-06-15 20:37

Andy, the original Lowrance units i've used had messy screen resolution when compared to other colour units. I was told the new Broadband/HD etc was to clean that up etc.

Whats your thoughts?, that looks like busy resolution for drift or slow speed?

Computer

This looks like it is from the recording and shown on the computer. Always seems to show more clutter etc on the recording as it is showing the raw data rather than a filtered show on the actual sounder screen.

Raw data

Mon, 2009-06-15 20:59

As Tim says its taken from the computer program, so its not exactly what we see on the screen. I will try and take some screenshots rather than the full "video" log of the day.

When you use the manual upper and lower limits you can get an excellent pic. Using the 4x zoom is good too and less fiddly but I find I like to get right down in there to see the fish right on the bottom.

Still learning and tweeking. Hopefully will have some good pcs to share later.

Super Zoom

That top pic is of about the bottom 3m only. Hence why it looks so cluttered.

Andy what Lowance sounder is that?

I had a look at the HDS-10 the other day. Its a combo unit, but either 10 or 12" screen. With built in broadband aswell.

LCX37. But the images come from the sonar viewer, which is where you capture the day's sonar images on an SD card then play them back on your computer when you get home. If you place your cursor on the screen it gives you the depth, water temp and GPS co-ordinates so you can load the points back into the unit and head back out there if its from a spot where perhaps you weren't looking at the screen and missed a new lump or patch of coral as you were driving along.
