Bok ! Bok ! Night

I know it's not fishing related (well, it is actually at a stretch because it brings in $$$s for fishing) , but a few of you wanted to see some picks of the chicken chasing. So, managed to take the camera last night.

Basically, we meet up at factory, load up the 3 trucks and trailers and then head out to the farm/s. Each pallet holds 20 cages and each cage can hold 6, 7, 8 or 10 chooks - depending on the size/breed of the chooks. Last night we did 70 pallets of 'sixes' - thats 70x20x6 or 8, 400 chooks. Surprised

We started at 06:00pm and finished at 09:15.

Sweaty and physical work, but I actually enjoy it.

LOADING UP AND TYING DOWN THE TRUCKS:

THE 8,400 CHOOKS - TASK WAS TO CLEAR THE SHED

LOADING THEM UP:

SHED CLEARED AND JOB DONE:

Just getting over a bad cold and after 2 days in bed, it was hard going - VERY sweaty and smelly! Foot in mouthYell

Whatever brings in the cash i say. Once spent a scorching 4 days or so cleaning up the poo under a load of chook sheds in Maddington - the bloody dust and sweat took skin off - it was like acid. I hope you are allowed to take as much crap as you like for the garden.

Yeah, we can, but it's the dynamics of getting it back home. After going absolutely flat out, you just want to get home. Your right, the dust and other air born 'stuff' is unbelievable. That's why I wear a mask - the other guys give me heeps - but ya only got one set of lungs ay?

I just go in there and collect them. There's so many different catagories these days. Caged, uncaged, grain fed, free range etc etc.

Stu - LMAO! The neighbours already think I'm strange LOL Surprised

Ody - HEY! Now THATS an idea! Transferring them from the net to the cages would be tricky!

The shed must be like a madhouse when you all get in there and the chooks start trying to get away. That's a lot of chooks to catch and pen. I bet you are finding harder and harder to eat chicken.

Actually, when we go in, we turn off the main lights and put on small blue flouro lights - this calms the birds down and the mostly just sit there. So just a case of scopping them up by their feet.

Yeah, LOL, after the first night I thought I'd never eat chicken again (the smell) - but my desire for my favourite food hasn't diminished    Tongue out

More or less Col...

Fri, 2008-10-10 07:39

We get 07c per chook. That's why 10s are good - you get 70c per crate - works out to $14.00 per pallot. The most I got in one night was $130 clear - and they were sixes - that nearly 1,900 chooks by myself. That's a lot of chook lifting and crate stuffing.
