Boat Help

Hey Guys,

For all you boat guru's out there.

I've finally semi decided what boat I want. 4.3-5m centre console.

Im due to see a few more this week, however theres 3 boats i am pretty keen on.

the first boat is a bermuda centre console 1996 with a 50Hp Mercury engine. The boat is in really good condition, with hardly any electronics not a problem. The engine has had 350 hours on the clock. Thats the only real downer, the trailor and everything else is really good.

He advertised it for 11k, and told me that he purchased it for 12k 3 years ago....hmmmm

The other boat is down in bunbury (so far to go) but its 1999 quintrex side console with a new engine for 10k.

Can someone give me some thoughts on these boats?

Not a boat guru, but the president is certainly the pick of the bunch.

350 hours is nothing provided its been maintained. IIRC one of the FW users has over 1000hrs from just this year!

The trailer on the president does'nt look to flash could be up for a couple of grand there replacement???
350 hrs would work out about 5 days use a year over 12 years
very little use,but thats not always a good thing

Diji is right, don't forget

Diji is right, don't forget the trailer. Not sure who, but someone on the site told me that a trailer can make or break your boating, so don't get a bad one!

Also, one of the FW users is thinking about replacing the trailer on his newly purchased used boat - don't forget to factor in a few $k for replacement if its not up to scratch!

if you are fishing down

if you are fishing down south I would look for an old westerberg or similar like kaneo said.  The centre console can get a bit wet in the rough stuff.  Having said that the president would still be allright.  Good all rounder and the motor isnt too old.  Cheap compared to pilbara prices.

Absolutely Russ.  The guys at safety bay are pretty honest though.  My last boat came from there and I never had a problem,  I kept that boat for five years.  It was the wettest boat I have ever had the displeasure of riding in.

yeah i got a reply from them today, the hull is 1989. is it too old? i would imagine the trailer would be 20 years old as well....maybe i should look at something else.

Whats your thoughts on a new stessco centre console? i think they are about 18k with a new 40-50hp 2stroke?

definietly the last one with the 75hp on the back it would get up and boogey for sure. mind you the quinnywith the 50hp on it doesnt look to bad either, mate has a motor similar to that and it pushed his 4.5m fiberglass alond nicely to.
