Momoi

Mon, 2009-05-11 20:22

Use momoi a fair bit, nice leader and ties a great knot. Probably not as abrasion resistant as some of the other brands though.

depends

bottom rigs - I'm liking the 110lb schneider, but I also use Penn 10x on occassions.

>10lb - Nitlon Fluorocarbon

20lb to 80lb - a mix of Penn 10x, Black Magic mono and Galis mono.

What size?

Mon, 2009-05-11 21:17

As Huggy said....Nitlon flourocarbon for less than 20 lb, but I only use lures with the lighter gear. For heavier lurecasting, like for salmon, I use Ande flouro (20-40 lb) and for driftbaiting, Penn 10x (40-60 lb). I use Black Magic supple for bottom bashing rigs (80-100 lb) and Black Magic tough for trolling leaders, 100 lb. Use 100 lb singlestrand wire in certain applications (Macks) but only if I know there's no chance for a tuna...

I think I had jinkai soft

Mon, 2009-05-11 21:33

I think I had jinkai soft 80lb leader on for exmouth on my heavier rig and didn't lose an inch of it, probably just luck.

My trolling gear had a WOL and again I was lucky, didn;t get toothed.

My PE3 BB gear was just 40lb pen 10xand again it was unscathed.

Boy did I lose a lot of sinkers on paternosters till I moved up to 100lb but then some idiot fish kept biting my sinkers in exmouth.

Leader pref!

Mon, 2009-05-11 22:26

I use many brands cransy but this is my pref;

Sufix-Sunline-YGK Galis FC Absorber for fluro carbon 10lb-60lb for all lure fishing & for kg fishing etc WHY....invisible, good abrassion resistence & longevity!

Jinkai PLUS 120lb for normal bottom bouncing WHY....easy to tie knots & abrassion resistence not bad....supple presentation. Second preference Momoi

Penn 10X 150lb for deepwater fishing WHY....has awesome abrassion resistence and i crimp it so knots arent an issue.

for Jigging as such I use

Tue, 2009-05-12 07:19

for Jigging as such I use Varivas - only cause its quite subtle and excellent knot strenght. Bit on the pricy side here.

for making rigs for deepsea as much i use black magic. I got a roll of Pen 10X 100lb and when your tieing your dropper loop (i think thats whats it called) and you dont lube it enough it will break...had 3 rigs break on me in one day - learnt the hard way.

To be honest i havent experinmented with other lines to say which one is better. But to me line diameter matters. i hate threading line through the eye of the hook if it "just" fits.
