and bagged out on 5 to 7 kg baldies everyday i was just using a standard patternoster rig with 2 droppers of about 20cm long with 2 snelled 7/0 gammas and a very short sinker dropper to keep the baits close to the bottom i found squid and occy worked well but the best bait by far was fresh northen blue fin tuna or any type off red fish fillets  that was on the west side of dirk hartog up against the cliffs but the boys fishing the shallows on the inside where just using an unwaited single 5/0 gamma drifted back towards the reef and they where catchin plenty of 2 to 3 kilo tuskys in 2m of water hope this is of some help to you

I used a big white lead head

Fri, 2009-08-14 20:00

I used a big white lead head jig hook (about an 8/0) for weight on a long trace, I tied the trace to a swivel with a long tag end, about 200mm long, on this I tied my 2nd hook, about a 4/0 octopus type chem sharpened hook. I had to use a bigger ball sinker running down to the jig in some places where the current was running a bit too strong to get tot he bottom. We used fresh fish chunks all the time for bait. This accounted for baldies, pinkies, all kinds of emperors so I'll be using it again next time I'm up there.

Cheers
Dale
