auto trans cooling system
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Tue, 2023-10-03 06:47
Did a trip down to karatha on the weekend with the camper on the back and the boat in tow. Drive down no problems but the trip back in 40 plus temps we got about 200klm back and the transmission got hot and started to play up.
Anyone had experience with the transmission cooling system and what brand. Hopefully we can sort the problem out or it's going to mean up sizing the tow rig which I don't realy want to do .
Any help greatly appreciated

What car is it? Look up
What car is it? Look up wholesale automatics on YouTube, lots of good info on there regarding trans temps. They make a good cooler kit using a PWR cooler, I have one on my Hilux and it works a treat.

Looked at quite a few on line. Did like the sounds of the ones for a ranger at wholesale. Went and spoke to my mechanic about them and he said that's all he would use. Ordering some today . Cheers

trans coolers
lots available. even supercheap auto have some decent ones. very easy to install, and depending on how much you tow, will save you on fuel in a year or 2.
basically just find the biggest one that will fit.

May or may not help, my last
May or may not help, my last 4wd did better keeping it in 4th. It wouldn't lock the torque converter in top gear.

Spot on, should never tow in
Spot on, should never tow in overdrive. The rangers are known to run hot, it may be worth getting a temp gauge to monitor things. I use a scan gauge 2. Good for all sorts but monitoring trans temps is a must when towing or driving in soft sand for long periods of time.

It is a concern of mine with
It is a concern of mine with a 2020 Ranger. We just towed 3t up to Shark Bay and back without a problem though once we got out to Billabong on the way home and it was 39 degrees, we opted to sit at the roadhouse for 45 minutes to have lunch.
Once the warranty has expired I will make the modifications to the car as I dont want to tinker with anything just yet.

First off a Trans Temp Gauge
First off a Trans Temp Gauge is a Must Followed by a Decent Aftermarket Trans Cooler,
if your a serious tower like myself a deeper Trans Pan could be considered so much easier Fitting an accurate Temp Gauge
My Trans Cooler also Runs a Themo fan help drop the Temp on them Very Hot days Especially if your not moving or stuck in traffic
