There is so many
scenarios going around. Good fun playing with AFL ladder predictor and see what strategies might come into effect. Teams that think other teams might be better/easier to play at certain venues etc.
As mentioned WCE might be better playing Freo in first final at Subi, than Hawks at subi. Still think hawks are the form team but they are beatable.
Depending on these potential scenarios and coaching strategies there might be some odd results come this weekend.

Lucky last round eh!
I think the Tigers over the Kangas in a close game
I reckon the Cats at home - the Crows will still be in la la land after their lucky win over the Eagles
The Doggies should get the job done up in QLD.
Power to smash Peel Thunder ha ha
Hawks have to be certainties.
Swans at home over the Suns who have disappointed their fans this year.
Eagles to get back in the winning groove and finish a great year in 2nd possie
GWS
The cold Pies to restore some gay pride so Joffa can get his handbag out again

I cant understand why you would rest all your best ???
If you have already conceded defeat by putting in a WAFL team, then why not run with the starting team but rotate them more often & treat it like the best training session you will ever get leading into the finals.
We all see how some teams are after the "waste of time" bye that we have to have.
I guess Ross the Toss knows best "again".

We all say the bye is a waste of time, but most players i see interviewed say its grsat to have a week off and let the knocks and bruises heal. They'll still train and run, just without the crash and bash....
If all goes to plan, the next time they get on a plane will be in october. That could also be said of the eagles....

Well I guess the players coming in for the Shockers
will be trying hard to impress the hierarchy, so some of the Dorker players will be trying, while the regulars still making the trip to Adelaide will be making sure they don't get injured and the Port Adelaide fans will have somehing to cheer about when they win the game by a handsome margin (though the players may feel a bit hollow about it all).
I guess any team in the same situation would do the same thing, whether it's in the spirit of the game or not.
Whether it backfires in the qualifying final remains to be seen...............

Interesting Randall
Not sure what the rationale is (if it is true) - maybe he has a bit of soreness?
He has got the Coleman medal pretty much sewn up I guess, so doesn't need to play to secure that award.
Simo has said that they need to win the game to ensure second spot, so you would assume a full strength team would be named, but they do have a few other good scoring options up forward besides Tennedy
Eagles might be taking a leaf out of Freo's book and resating some key players eh!

Some clown on 6pr (not karl) last night said that if there is a derby final (not the GF) at domain, then the crowd distribution will be 50 / 50. Surely not. Surely the home team supporters would get priority ticketing and the away team supporters pick up whats left???

This almost happened some years ago did it not? Eagles above Dockers nearly met in a final & a 50 / 50 split declared? Members cried foul if I remember correctly & Dockers fans calling it fair! Anyway for the record I agree, top seeded team should get priority ticketing

Could get ugly ... AFL will need riot police and extra ambulances on standby at the ground I’d suggest .. especially when those feral weagles start their booing shit
Showdown final/Derby final
In the event of a showdown final between Adelaide and Port Adelaide, or a derby final between Fremantle and West Coast, club members are advised to familiarise themselves with the on-sale information communicated by the Club and the AFL. Members are also encouraged to purchase online as there will be high demand and limited availability for these matches. Members of each club will purchase from a protected allocation of seats and while one club’s allocation may sell out quicker than the other, the split of the member allocation will be 50/50.

Yep IMO that is "Tanking",
Yep IMO that is "Tanking", something the AFL is suppose to be stamping out.
Freo tanking will not affect their position on the ladder which in turn does not affect their draft pick position.
However North Melbourne opting to throw the game will affect their position on the ladder & therefore affecting their position in the draft picking order.
Am I wrong in thinking that ?????

Draft
Draft pecking order is where the top 8 finish after the finals campaign. If you won the flag from fifth spot, then you would be the last to pick in the first round of the draft.

Not bad arguments but misses
Not bad arguments but misses the point that a horse race is a single event competition with a prize at the end of that race. The afl is a season event were the prize is at the end and a reward for multiple events over the course of the season. If a horse trainer would rather win the melbourne cup than race three at kalgoorlie three weeks before, he withdraws the horse from kLgoirlie to rest and avoid injury. It doesnt impact the integrity of that race and gives the horse at better chance at the cup?
The afl is in a poistion where they need to balance a teams best chance at a premiership against the impact of individual games on the competition.
Fremantle's position is much clearer than north melbourne's. A port loss is the only way draft picks could be affected, therefore resting freo players cannot affect the integity of that particular game. The afl then have to decide if it is a commercially smart decision to inconvenience supporters and suffer any backlash if they choose to. If this case they have accepted that risk.
But the north melbourne result can affect ladder positions within the eight, depending on other results. So not only could north benefit, but it could cause detriment to other clubs. Imo that certainly calls into question the integrity of that particular game.
Should the potentially affected clubs be allowed to make sumbmissions as to why north melbourne should rest? Can they already? Do the afl consider that already? I dont know.

Someone else raises a good
Someone else raises a good point on one of the blogs...
North bring in 10 players from the vfl who are unlikely to get another afl game. They lose, so theyre playing richmond again the following week... but in the process some of those inclusions intentionally smash the richmond players, causing injury, potentially concussion. Several tigers miss the following week and north bring back in their rested players.... suspenions to the 'intruders' doesnt really affect north melbourne....
Unlikely, but you never know.

so since the AFL agreed to
so since the AFL agreed to let freo drop half there best team, are the AFL going to compensate port for low ticket sales to what appears to be an ordinary scratch match?
why wouldnt port put forward there reserves and try to loose for better draft pick?
i would do the exact same thing if i were in charge of north

Another angle
Talking about putting their best team on the track each week and giving the public the game they expect doesn't happen.
One only has to look at the injury lists and see how many players are out for the season on the low ranked teams with many of their players out weeks ago having end of season operations when it became clear they wouldn't take part in the finals. So if that's not tanking then what is it?
Every team is supposed to be on an equal footing but the ones playing finals have a smaller period of time during the off season for their players to recover if operations are needed.
North Melbourne are tanking and shouldn't be permitted to drop players, end of story

Rules or not, its pretty
Rules or not, its pretty simple. If you are in a position to do whatever is best for your team to win the flag so be it.
Ultimately there is only one prize.
If I was one of the coaches I would do the same thing if IMO it improved the chances in the finals. There is a risk though. Match fitness and morale issues. Being flogged whether you knew you might will have an effect on players Psych. Losing never feel good so both North and Freo are playing that risk.
On the other side, if Peel beats Port, and North against Richo - wow that would be a huge morale boost to both sides.

The match fitness one is a
The match fitness one is a big one I think...I wonder if in the case of Freo how much of an effect having a core of players playing just one match in a three-four week period would have on them, should they win the QF? All power to them though I guess for finishing top with a game or so in hand but a bit of an iffy strategy I think. I'd hate to see the Hawks do it, well they did in 2011 against the Suns and got trounced by the Cats in the QF.
Though its not hard to see other teams try this out next year, shit hitting the fan and then the AFL do another knee jerk policy on the run.
