Just that fireline would

Fri, 2008-07-04 15:59

Just that fireline would break double its line strength if you tie the knots correctly, so not quite two pound. Should break at 2lb if you use the 'right' knot, or 1lb would break at around 2lb if you use a good knot.

Perhaps, similarily to the durango comp there could be two prizes (and hopefully a lot more entrants), that way brenz could decide one prize and say adam some fishwrecked gear (if hes happy with that), that way you can still compete brenz.

Matt youll find 1lb fireline breaks way over that mark. Give someone 1lb braid and then 1kg (2.2lb) mono and they cant believe how weak the mono is.

NOHA - Im with you 1kg mono all the way.

nah i think we will just offer the one prize as brenz stated , also someone stated its just a fun thing to do, nothing too serious, hey we would be happy to participate but we wouldnt be eligable as we are the judges so no point, might include some pics if we get out but that would be the extent, i think thats fair.

KISS

Fri, 2008-07-04 18:52

Agreed on the KISS format, these things need to be fun and have a degree of honesty involved or nobody would be interested.

Here's my spin on it.

12 species over 12 months, judges decide what next months species is & then have a poll on the entries each month to see who wins the prize.

Cheers, Al.

hey noha, i think tuna would be a good one for the off months, snapper in season would be a good one sambo's another, so yeah keep those thoughts, these will test the 1kg out for sure.let just say that each of these 3 WILL be up over the 12 months if it all goes ahead as a different fish each month comp.

Fri, 2008-07-04 20:44

I tested the 1lb braid over my digital drag scales today and it broke at 1.2lb, 1.6lb and 1.1lb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Over 3 tests!.Now im with Tim on the firline stuff braking well over its strain but this really suprised me too! But the braking strain isnt the problem with this shit its being able to tie the knots and cast it with out braking it which is the hard part! You have to remember that 0.5kg line in braid is like hair you cant even see the shit!lol. They atleast could have made it bright yellow or something.

haha prize might have to be hooks sinkers and swivels to replace the heap that will get lost to snags fish and bad casts LOL.

i spooled a reel up with the same line you got today spess but in 1kg, bloody that was hard to tie knots in too.

Fri, 2008-07-04 21:04

Thats pretty much what happen to me and i went back to 2kg. Just the action of a spinning reel imparts so much twist into the line that 2 or 3 casts and it turns to shit.

No swivel made can take out the twist in line that light.

Had some trouble finding 2lb line today

Sat, 2008-07-05 21:46

I don't know if that was because there was a sudden buying spree by competitors or not. Went to 3 stores, but had no luck.
But I did manage to buy a few Nils mater lures that were reduced to $3.50 and some RMG Scorpions that were reduced to $6.30.
