2kg camping gas bottle exchange

A bit of an off topic lads, but going away next week and just relised my 2kg has bottle is outta date, does anyone know where I am able to swap n go a small bottle like this?

Or am I better off just buying a new one and getting it filled?

As I can imaging it would prob cost the same to get it re stamped/checked!

Cheers

Tim

Just take it to the local servo with the gas exchange bottles, most of the servos have the 2L bottles now

Nope, simply swap it at bunnings/similar.

I got a $10 4kg bottle from gumtree as new ones were $40 and empty. Took it to bunnings and swapped it got a full one for $15.

That would be the exception

They are supposed to check whether they are in date. I have seen out of date ones refused before.

Or fill it yourself

Yes, my experience is it is more expensive to have a bottle tested than to buy a new one, so I have set up a hose that allows me to fill my small camping bottles from a BBQ bottle to overcome the out of date issue. Provided the small bottles are always kept with some gas in them (same as you do with dive bottles to stop moisture getting in) and are not dented, worn or rusty, there should be little worry about safety simply because they are out of date. Having said that though, if there was ever an accident involving an out of date bottle, I am sure the law would find the owner liable.
