Birds Eye View - Exmouth Western Australia
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2011-01-07 15:10Hi Crew,
Just letting you know fishwrecked.com is now a booking agent for Birds Eye View - Exmouth. This means I can offer you members discounted flights with Gavin. I was given one for my birthday and having done it just before Christmas, well, all I can say is AWESOME. I know most of you coming to Exmouth want to go fishing on your glassy days, but this is just something you must do!! I will definitely be going again during whale shark and humpback season. The day I went up we saw literally hundreds of turtles, dolphins, mantas, fish on the bombies, sharks, rays and the list goes on. Here's a link to the Birds Eye site for you to have a look and also a link to the fishwrecked store so you can buy your vouchers. (you can also see the price difference for booking through fishwrecked)
http://www.ningaloomicrolights.com/index.html
Below are a few photos to look at, I took over 350 in the hour I was up and Gav takes them from the wing of the glider that you can pay $30 for. It may not be for everyone, but I tell ya what, its FULLY SICK!
Cheers,
Adam

Withnell Point DHI camping
Submitted by GROGfish on Tue, 2011-01-04 00:20Hi all - first post, looking forward to some of the great advice I've been seeing on this site.
Heading to DHI end of April. Last time I took Louisa Bay - but I had my highly modified old Jayco then, now its just tents, trailer and 7 other people who are new to camping/fishing. So I thought I'd do Withnell Point this time cos the hut will provide some respite from wind if we get it (mind you April is often good) and some solid ground beneath their feet.
OK, the questions:
1. From memory, the ground around the shack where we will set up tents is not deep sand - its rather hard packed. Can someone advise if this is the case?
2. Fishing anywhere in Louisa Bay was very productive all day - does Withnell Point have any good fishing ground or do we need to go up to Sammys or back to Louisa?
3. Turtle Bay is close, but there seems to be a sanctuary there now? Can anyone confirm and give details?
4. I seem to recall that between the top end of Sammy's and Turtle Bay there is a serious drop off (I can't see it on Google Earth) - is this reachable by kayak? Any instructions on where it is appreciated.
Any advice on the above much appreciated?
Cheers
Grant

Gear selection advice.
Submitted by jeremy-j on Mon, 2010-11-29 11:16Hi guys,
My G/F has let me plan a quick getaway for the 2 of us next year and to my pleasure she has agreed on a 5 night stay at eco beach, We are going to be there mid april. I know what fish to expect however im asking advice on rods and reels to take up as my partner will have a hard time holding onto a 10000 sw at full drag.
I currently have a luvias 2500, a saragosa 5000 and this week ill be attaining a stella 10000sw, so more than likely ill be looking at a 4000 size reel and possibly 2 rods, one to suit the 2500 and one for a 4000 size reel. If any one has any suggestions on rods that will match and that ill be able to use throwing lures for hours please post it up.
ill also need some ideas on lures to be using in the creek as that is a whole new world to me.
Thanks
Jeremy

The trip of a lifetime
Submitted by tiimmbo on Sun, 2010-11-14 21:59Well it's time to gloat. Lamby and I (with 4 other mates) have the ultimate fishing adventure planned for next year. We had our first meeting to discuss logistics on Friday afternoon and we have nutted out a rough itinery. We are leaving Perth with first stop Turtle Dove Shoals then on to the Abroholos for 3 or 4 days. Next stop Dirk Hartog Island/steep point for a couple days before we head to Ningaloo for a bit of whale shark action and some pelagic chasing /diving and soaking up the sun. Next stop 4 days at Monte's. Been there 3 times cant wait for number 4. From here we need to go to refuel in headland then off to Rowley Shoals. Think it was 4 days out there before steaming back to Broome and then a 4 day run through the Kimberley Gorges and hopefully catch my first Barra. Final stop in Broome then fly back to Perth.
Diving, fishing and having a good time with a bunch of mates all along the way. 60ft boat, towing our 5.4m runabout as a tender for the stops and fishing the WA coast from perth to Broome. What an adventure. 22 days at sea. Cant wait.
Is there anything along the way that is a must see or do?

Help: Yunderup fishing crabbing this weekend
Submitted by Timmo on Thu, 2010-10-28 08:34Hi I am heading down to a mates house in Yunderup and was wondering what sort of fishing and crabbing is around that way at this time of the year. Will be near Ravenswood Tav so know their should be some good bream around. What bait do you think stick with the river prawns? Also is it worth soaking a bigger bait for mullas or do they not head up that far? And lastly are the crabs running. Will have a small dingy but can only fit a couple of ppl so pretty much LB'd. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Cheers Timmo

GT
Submitted by Kasey L. on Tue, 2010-10-26 16:42Hello,
I have one final slot available for anyone who is very interested to fish NC, with 3 anglers already confirmed for the following dates:
Arrive: Monday, 21st February 11h45 Noumea from SYDNEY
Fishing Day: Tuesday 22nd February - Saturday 26th February (5 days)
Buffer/ Recovery Day: Sunday 27th February
Departure: Monday, 28th February 12:40 Noumea to SYDNEY
Dates are all for 2011. The estimated figure for the whole trip, food and accomodation included is AUD 3500 not including flights.
My only reservation is that I would prefer it to be someone I know, as we will all have to be comfortable to fit as a group.
We are also hoping to encounter YFT and Dogtooth.
Anyway, drop me a PM if you'd like to come.

Montes VS Rowley
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Sat, 2010-10-23 20:02Hi all
Just wondering if theres anyone reading this whos done both the Monte Bellos and the Rowley shoals...
Im planng to do a trip next year, but am trying to decide if its worth spending the extra $$ to go the rowleys? its oblviously a bit of step up in terms of finances.
Im leaning towards montes first up, can anyone fill me in on when its best to go- know the seasons july-september but was really after the large pelargic set (sails n marlin, tuna, gts etc...) so is it advisable to leave it as late as possible to let the water warm up a bit?
lots of questions i know. cheers in advance

Yardie creek goes bad
Submitted by Kingfisher549 on Mon, 2010-10-11 22:02Had booked and paid for my holiday three months ago after organising the event over one year prior. Yep I was excited to go fishing in Exmouth, walk the beaches with poppers and fish from the tinny catching all manner of species. When the wind came in I was going to windsurf. This was the perfect holiday for a fishing and sailing crazy person so how did it go wrong? Stay at Yardie Creek Caravan Park and your excitement of a perfect holiday is soon sqashed by the management of the park.
On arriving at 2pm Saturday the shop/office was closed, a sign told you to report your arrival to management at cabin 7. Still excited about seeing some great scenery on the way in I walk around to cabin 7 and pressed the button that rang the bell to the start of my interaction from the management from hell. A lady walked into the light at the screen door and asked who I was, "Rogers family I said excitedly" and started to ask questions about the place until I was stopped in my tracks, "$50 bond you have a dog, let it off its lead and you will not get it back, your location has been taken you are now on site 40". I handed over the $50 and the door closed. Not a problem I thought until I found site 40 and compared it to the site I had been given 3 months earlier. It was a van site with a concrete pad not a flat site as requested for my campervan. A few creative changes to the method of putting up the camper solved the problem.
The next morning I visited the shop to purchase some ice and get a bit of bait and hopefully get a bit of advice on a few of the local fishing spots but all I received was a cold look and an empty wallet. Ok so she is not into fishing I can live with that.
Several days pass and I have avoided management and the week started to look good until the bins outside the toilets began to smell and there number increase. After talking with a person who had already been in the park a week he informed me that they were only emptied once a week on a Friday and the number was into double figures and it was only Wednesday. The smell by the end of the week was something special by Friday morning.
One morning on returning from a successful beach fish with my dog I got out of the 4wd and was greeted within seconds by the male member of the management partnership and was not greeted with a friendly "hello" he was hell bent on telling me that my dog was off its lead and was off yesterday and he was keeping my $50 bond. Very strange as the prior day I was away with my dog the whole day.
When you visit the toilets dont expect a clean environment, used toilet rolls on the floor paper and s..t floating in the bowl. Great way to start the day cleaning a toilet before you are able to use it.
Dont try and use the BBQ area and expect the gas bottle to be full. No you have to go and ask for that and then get told that 3 bottles are used a day and if those F...g people turned of the bottles then they would be full. After returning to the BBQ area the management arrived an hour later with a bottle and continued to be creative with his language.
Saturday evening I approached management carefully and asked for the $50 bond back as I was leaving early the next morning. This request was not received well and was told "we dont do that". I then stated that I would wake them up at 5am when I intended to leave and get my $50 back then. Once management realised I was serious, $50 was handed over with a grumble.
Yep a week at Yardie Creek thankyou management

Geographe Bay - Saturday 25/9
Submitted by 7739ian on Sun, 2010-09-26 19:32Sorry folks - no photos as i either left the camera on the boat trailer at the ramp or it is somewhere under the floor. Despite this, a great day on the bay. Nothing spectacular - dropped the only KG at the side of the boat, the end guide on an Ebay rod corroded off with a big whiting on the line and i nearly mowed my slow moving brother down as i left the ramp. Perfect weather but very few squid - 4 only but one as big as a bucket to make it enough for a meal. The best thing was 16 sand whiting that on average were close to or over 300mm and fat as a politicians wallet - fed 4 people for breakfast this morning and the brother took enough home for a good feed for another 4. To top the day off, about 10am a whale heading south passed us out to sea -superb sight. It is days like this when i realise why i live here in the SW.

Submitted by Marky on Tue, 2010-09-21 06:347 DAY FISHING TRIP – WIVES WELCOME
I am planning a fishing excursion to Stewart Island next week (off the bottom of South Island, New Zealand.)

Then gather around the piano and the well-stocked bar for an evening of romantic something.
Expressions of interest are invited for this 'once-in-a-lifetime' experience.
Publicity photographs attached.
Call me back quick to ensure your spot.
Got sent this so I thought Id share...

FNQ guided barra fishing charters
Submitted by Hansie on Mon, 2010-09-13 14:17Hey guys
can anyone offer some advice please?
the mrs and i are heading to Cairns in Jan 2011 and keen as anything to do some fishing esp if there are barra on the chew (that'd be a good season to catch em wouldn't it?)
some site members (cheers scuttlebutt, bunny) have given good tips and included the mention of Tinaroo dam.
i've heard of it before and am prepared to cough up the coin it would no doubt cost for a guided trip to maximise our chances of scoring.
but not without consulting the fishwrecked crew first...
can anyone suggest a great guide or a better location or any other good tips?
cheers heaps

Instant boat ramp - almost
Submitted by 7739ian on Wed, 2010-09-08 11:12A few weeks ago i posted a note about expandable ground support panels that i had seen years ago and the potential for building temporary boat ramps. I tracked down the supplier who sent me the attached photos of a Water Department ramp constructed at he beleives Wungong dam. They have beefed it up using bluemetal rather than the site soil. L;ooks good to me and an answer to fishing comps and beach launches in an area without ramps. Carry your own.
