Just got back from a week up at Kalbarri. Only went fishing two times and both times were pretty short due to the wind and a young passenger suffering from sea sickness. The bolt cutters (NW Blowies) were out in full force so didnt'do much bottom bouncing. Caught a number of fish but here are the best two. 

Was stoked to get my first Wahoo. Both caught on small Rapala XRAPS

Went down to the guildford bridge a couple days ago to see if I could catch some bream before the sunset.

Tried lures with no success, switched to bait but was only getting nibbles for an hour. 

Re-baited and casted. Left the rod on the ground for 30 seconds unnatended whilst I was occupied with something else when I heard my drag go, knew I was hooked onto something big.

So I go to grab my rob but in an instant it gets pulled into the water, I quickly looked down in the water to see my rod torpedoing into the depths. Not sure if I was more disppointed that I lost a good rod, or the fish.

Lesson learnt, keep an eye on your rod and make sure it's secure.

So today, I grabbed my other rod and left early in the morning and headed to success hill under the pipe. I attach my new tt switchblade in gold noggin colour to the rod and cast. A couple of flicks and a short wind with a decent pause for the retreive.

First cast, I was hooked onto a bream I could tell it wasn't a monster but it would've been my first bream on a lure as I haven't really tried before. Lost it after about 4 seconds.

So I continue to cast around the shore and after about 20 casts, I'm snagged. Lost a good lure.

Not a very good couple of trips, but at least I'm more motivated to use lures for bream.

The Busselton Jetty Report : ppl looking for me edition.

This has been the quietest summer fishing season since the jetty opened. The best chance to catch a feed at the moment is about halfway out the jetty with some herring getting around there in the late afternoon early evening. The squid madness of a month or two ago has come to an end but there are still some big ones around for those who work for them. Tailor are not playing the game so far this summer and are hit and miss more miss than hit. Not many snook around for this time or year as well. If you just want to have some fun there have been Sampson fish hanging around the pylons throughout the day from the second shelter onwards, use squid head on a 9/0 or greater hook and a heavy handline or if you are mad enough an overhead.

2014 was a relatively quiet year for the jetty overall.

Went out on Tuesday with everyone else, out into the washing machine!

Anyway after messing around in close decided to venture out a bit further.

Ended up catching the first size dhu for the boat (and my first one in years!). Moved spots again and then ended up catching a pink snapper on a sof plastic! Awesome stuff.

Just to add to that video posted, here are some pics of the trips we did the other day. The first day inshore was amazing with Cobia, Mackerel and Large Mouth Nannygai to 50 cm released as we had so many fish. It was non stop action and brilliant fun. The next day saw us go wide and we had a great day on the Stickbaits and poppers with not only the GT but Spanish Macks were flying out of the water trying to smash the stickbaits. We could have bagged out on Spanish if we wanted to. Some Good Reds and other fish were landed to round off a great trip. The final trip was also a good one although the time spent wide trying to chase a Billfish/Wahoo etc was fruitless. We still got some good fish though including some Stonker Blue Spot trout and a big Wrasse at the end. The Dolphins were a good way to end the day. I'll get some more footage sorted and post down the track.

 well me family headed to our beach shack at grey Boxing Day and got there about 9am  plan was to quickly unpack and put the boat in but me dad had other ideas wait for me other and uncle to arrive and unpack  then they wanted a cup off tea while I was itching to head out with perfect conditions I was getting pissed off Finaly me keen uncle got the rest going and we Finaly lanched the 2 boats by 1030 or so and headed north in the shallows to have a crack at some shallow water demersals first spot we were in bout 10m and resulted in nothing so moved on and anchored  burleyed up a lil and next thing I was onto soemthen with a good fight  on me light jigger majorcraft crostage and stradic ci4 3000.  I was calling it straight up for a pinkie. Which resulted in a 460 pinkie being legal we were were I still threw it back hoping for some larger ones to show up but to no avail   After a while and the wind picking up we called it quits for the day but me uncle and cousin stayed out. A few hours longer and Finaly came in with 2 dhuies for the day. 

Saturaay came and knowing the winds were going to drop warly we headed out about 630am and plan was to head out to the 40s  but didn't go according to plan with it a bit sloppy. And me eldest uncle on board dad and I decided to head back to the area we are fishing the day before. Arrived at one particular spot which had some nice shows on te sounder so we threw the anchor    Within 5 mins dad was onto soemthen and was taking a bit off line  but soon got it easily wnough up in the 10m off water  and was a nice 540mm baldie into the eskie he went while I caught a few undesirable fish we kept for bait for me dad and uncle I persisted with the jigs. Next min dad is on again up comes another baldie but undersized  so back in he went. It went quiet so we headed off for a new spot found a nice patch off reef and dropped anchor we barely took the slack out off the anchor rope ask we had dropped already  I was getting tap tap taps. Then bang I'm on then with in seconds dad was on  dad got his to the boat pretty quickly while I was getting the run around the boat a few times with mine and I was thinking ahit hope the 20lb leader I was using holds up  he slowly started to loose the fight and I was beginning to win then I saw colour dad had just netted his dhuie said to him hurry up I'll need the net  I was shouting out dhuie for mine.  Dad was trying to rush but his got tangled in then by now mine was boat side. And was thinking shit this would be close to me pb dhuie off 800mm. Dad was just about got the net free  then next second me fish decided to give bit off kick and next thing I see me line go slack.  So I quickly tried grabbing him by hand but he slipped away next hall u hear was me shouting out Ff@@k  I was nt happy. . But quickly pulled meself together and checked leader the whole 2m was scuffed as and numerous spots were just hanging on  so cut that off and tied a new one on and re rigged by that time we thought we might head a lil bit deeper and so we went to the reef line in about 12-14 m and drifted thur the section seens the swell was low and wind was virtually none  we picked up a few fish such a as black ass flathead. Samba and a skippy  we decided to call it a day  as the by that time the wind had started to pick up . On the Sunday I had to come home  but me dad and uncles stayed till Tuesday getting oht on Sunday and Monday heading to the shallows again and cleaning up both day.  With the biggest waith me dad catching a 750 dhuie. And cousin a 650. In all was a great day rip can't wait to hit the shack again

 next thing 

Went to Rotto on Tuesday landed six Dufish two keepers two nice black ass. Also hooked monster YTK epic battle only to lose fish being to enthousiastic trying to net to early. Then every expletive known to man came oiut of my mouth . I  estimate 1500 TO 1800 long. Only had half a mulie left and thought may as well try again and to my delight instant hook up . Played only a few minutes and then got busted off on reef.   Next time i will try to take more time to wear out the fish before trying to net. Anybody have any idea how much a fish like that would way? Have lost other YTK before but this would have been a fish of a lifetime.

Mate Nic and I managed to get in one last fishing session for the year of 2014. Launching at the wee hours of the morning ensured that we were fishing just after sunrise. The initial drift resulted in no takers mainly due to the brisk wind and we decided to drop anchor close to a likely looking bommie. After burleying we started catching bread and butter species and within two hours we had our quota for the day. A just legal sized Dhufish was followed by two Snapper(one kept), a Baldchin Groper, a Harlequin Fish and a Breaksea Cod (released). Nic also managed to catch a large Port Jackson Shark, two Fiddler Ray and a decent Sambo before the wind became too unbearable.

On our way back to Woodman Point we noticed some bird activity and decided to investigate. Tuna were smashing baitfish and it took a couple of seconds to tie a Halco Twisty to the end of one of the lines and cast out into the frenzy. First cast and we were on. In the short 15 minute session before the fish disappeared we managed to boat three of these keen fighters.

A great way to finish off 2014 with a good feed to keep us going for a week or two.

First report, like reading others reports so thought I'd throw one up, bit late but... went out off Rocko two Sunday's ago. Wind was howling early, game plan was to fish for an hr then pull the pots in for the season. Rough out deep early.

Launched with a mate at about 5.30 headed out into the 30's for our first attempt since the ban lifted. First drop saw a beautiful 66cm Baldy, second drop saw an undersize Dhu, released well. 15mins more fishing saw a 65cm and a 50.00000001cm Dhu on board. The smaller released well, usually we have a 70cm rule for Dhu but let this one slide for 65cm one, the first for the season. Really nice fish.

 Went out from mandurah yesterday in very ordinary conditions with my  best maye Paul, AKA Decrais. Decided to give a smaller jig a crack on my new outfit as the fish seemed a little shut down. I remember thinking to myself just as my jig hit the bottom this will be interesting if I hook something decent. Sure enough seconds later bang I was hooked up. After about 5 minutes of feeling like I had barely budged whatever I had hooked it decided to make a move taking a heep od line. As the line angle increased I started to get concerned I was gunna get rubbed of as the ground was a little knarly. We decided to start the boat and pursue the fish trying to improve the angle. I got real lucky as there was a point when it felt like it had me in the reef. I backed of the tension for about 5 seconds and fortunately he came out. I started to put as much hurt on the fish as I thought my outfit could handle but the whole time wondering if my line was damaged from the reef. Eventually I managed to get him turned and get him to the boat. Epic battle

 Hit up Henderson this morning wading the reef chasing tailor on stickbaits only managed a herringand 4 razor fish  there was a few boats trolling the area including one old dude in a dingie trolling a red rope handline I would love to know what he was expecting to catch. Packed up had brekkie and headed to the river for flathead in nedlands area managed about 12 including one going 57 which took a few runs on my very light drag setting all flatties bar 2 40cm fish were released

Mate Nic asked if I would take his brother-in-law and nephew visiting from South Africa for a fishing outing on the boat. With a bit of a break in the wind forecast for the next day we hastily finalised arrangements in anticipation for a couple of hours fishing. After hooking the boat I picked them up at 03h30 the next morning and we made the 20km journey to Woodman Point. On arrival at the Cockburn Powerboat Association slipway we realised that there were a number of other keen anglers capitalising on the favourable conditions.

After an uneventful launch we made our way across the Sound and out into the Indian Ocean towards one of my favourite spots. I always get decent fish at this spot and wanted the guys to go home with at least one good fish. As we approached one of the bommies we cut the motor and dropped weighted baits trolling behind the boat as the Easterly wind pushed us along. The sea anchor was deployed to slow the drift and to ensure that the baits remained in the “zone”. I decided to “bottom bounce” with a lighter rig whilst waiting for the other baits to be picked up. Within minutes I managed to land an undersized Baldie after which Chris picked up a small Pinkie. As we were unhooking the Pinkie for release my rod with the Scalie in tow took off and I was into the first decent fish for the day. Seconds later the second rod took off and a full minute had not gone by since the first hook up and a third fish was on – a triple hook up! I was reefed soon after followed by Chris and then Tiaan – what a disappointment, three hook-ups and no fish. All three were decent fish and I was starting to think Sambo or Kingie, as they all gave very decent tugs on the business end of the tackle.

A second drift over this bommie resulted in a couple of undersized Dhufish and Breaksea Cod with no further large visitors taking our baits. The wind had dropped by a couple of knots and we decided to drop the anchor near the bommie and entice these elusive fish with a burley trail. Not long after we anchored I picked up a large fish on an unweighted mullie fishing a light 20lb rig. I was on a hiding to none as this fish also took little time to reef me. This left me with no choice - out came the “big guns” – the T-Curve Jig 200 rod with the Daiwa SGT35H reel loaded with 40lb braid as the light tackle was an insult to these keen fighting fish. At the business end two 7/0 Gamakatsu hooks snelled onto 60lb floro held the scalie in place.

Nic had been dropping a constant stream of mullie blocks behind the boat and we saw the Yelowtail Kingfish dart up from the dark blue depths and engulf the free offerings. The baited rig was tossed a short distance behind the boat and allowed to drift amongst the free offerings. Nic had the first pick up but failed to set the hook. When my turn came I restrained the urge to strike and allowed the Kingie to swim off with my bait before setting the hook. Bang! I was into a steam train with rocket propulsion and spent the first couple of seconds hanging on in awe before I came to my wits and steadily set the drag to prevent this fish running me into the reef as all its previous mates had done. After a couple of anxious moments I eventually turned the Kingies’ head from its intended destination and slowly brought it up to the surface amidst a lot of protesting from this formidable fighter. As it slipped into the net there were high-fives all around as we eventually managed to boat one of these tackle busters.

Chris managed to lose another Kingie to the reef below before I handed him the T-Curve which had a dissenting Kingie at the other end. After a tense battle which lasted a number of nervous minutes Chris boated his largest fish ever and was he a happy camper. Young Tiaan caught a feisty Bronzie to conclude his first day out on our wonderful WA waters.

By mid-day the regular December Fremantle Doctor was starting to show its presence and we decided to make our way back to the slipway before the sea became too sloppy.

I have been privileged to land a number of decent Sambos and am willing to give the title of heavyweight fighting champion to the Yellowtail Kingfish after this weekend’s bout.

since buying my boat earlier this year, one of my main goals has been to catch a sambo.

I opened my account pretty early in the Cockburn sound while just trying some small lumps ide noticed on the way in,
as you can see, its a very small juvenile and only really took the photo as it was quite comical at the time.

the next stepping stone was a by catch while spinning for tailor on the reefs out from Hilarys, hitting the old faithful Smiling Jack. also not very big at all but I was bloody chuffed (had spent a lot of time over the reefs with live baits in the berley trail for nil) finally I had one, and on a hard body also.

the next size up came the day after boxing day, being down Busso way it would of been rude of me to not take the boat down, we headed out into the clear waters of the bay and soon found a little rise, my sounder was reading fish hanging around the lump so we quickly anchored up and set to burleying up, first drop my deckie loaded up onto a good fish straight away but got bricked, my hopes rose. I lobbed out a soft plastic and set to prepping the boat/berley when my brand new tcurve/stradic combo took off. after a solid battle and few rings around the boat I got it to the boat and was pumped to finally grab the tail of a good size (well for me) sambo. caught and released 4 more of simular size which all were fun on 20lb, happy to christen my new combo too!

So now, Im ready for the next level up, just gotta keep trying I guess and hopefully with a bit of luck it wont be too far away - to be continued...

Finally got Narelle Gwynne out in the boat today and she went well!
She nailed a Spaniard as soon as we went over the spot which we then anchored on for the the rest of the day. Not too many keepers but dozens upon dozens of Bludger Trevally and a few Big Eye trevally thrown in. We did get one keeper Nannygai among dozens of under size ones, a nice school mack and a solid Cobia. A good inshore trip out from Cairns for just one spot.

found some good water that held fish. picked up halfadozen tailor good feed of whiting and a few dart.

 Yesterday in anticipation of making the best of the good forecasted weather, we decided to head to the FADS to see for ourselves if the water up temperature was warm enough for Dollies. The water temperature at the back of Garden Island was between 19.7 and 20.2 degrees in about 25-35m of water. As we headed west to the Furuno, PGFC and the new Recfishwest fads (could not find the surface fad at 32 00 938S 115 13 886 E) the water temp decreased into the upper 17 degrees. This was was not a good start to long travel from Rocko. 

Prior to departing BOM surface temperature indicated the water would be between 20-22 degrees, this was not the case.

We done the usual trawling with "Jub Jubs" and live baits, but nothing. After a good effort we decide to bottom bounce closer to Rocko as the weather was gonna turn as the day progressed. We were fortunate enough to pick up a 4.5kg Baladie and the biggest KGW I've ever seen. 

There were a few other boats looking for Dollies but we never saw anyone go away?... The good news is there are alot of Tuna around.

Hi All, so it's been a while since my last post, finally got a chance to wet a line this morning my partner, we started out going to Bluewater for some advice on tackle and bait, was greeted by a nice and influential saesman on what to buy, and not what to buy.. Lures all the way as bait will only get you blowies, so I got both just in case.. after spending ages blooping this whiting lure, I got nothing, my partner was on the bait and had two whiting, so another trip back to the tackle store to pick up some more bait saw another five fish caught, all up seven fish, I got two my (as usual) lucky partner got five.

Anyway looking forward to a yummy dinner tonight!

 headed out off oceanreef today, hundreds of boats out and plenty of boat ramp caos. Was still a good day with a mixed bag. First queeny I've caught also.

I managed to get out for a short solo morning session yesterday before the wind picked up. After launching at 05h00 from Woodman Point I made my away across a sloppy ocean to one of my favourite spots. I decided to cut the Yammie about 500m upwind from "the spot" and use the Easterly to deliver me over the zone. The first bait out was a mullie on a double snelled 4/0 Gamakatsu on a 20lb rig. I was busy baiting the second rig when I noticed an inquiry on the rod tip and set the hooks into a feisty fish. After a 5 minute tussle I had the fish at the boat, but it was not going to give up that easily. After a number of exhilarating runs I eventually boated my first Tuna. Not a big fish by any means, but enough to earn respect for this new species. Anything bigger than this will require slightly heavier tackle.

The second rig had a scalie at the business end attached to double snelled 7/0 Gamakatsu hooks. No more than 15 minutes after the first fish I was into a heavy-weight contender trying to reef me. The speed of the drift came to my rescue as I managed to lift the fish from its reefy home and bring it to the net. My first decent demersal after the ban - a Dhufish of 81cm - elation! This time the rig was the heavier Shimano T-curve Jig 200 with 40lb braid - the correct gear for this bout. A good way to initiate the new rod after my brother managed to snap the other one a couple of weeks ago.

By 11h00 the wind had changed direction and the prevailing brisk South Wester told me that it was time to go home. Apart from the Tuna and Dhuie I managed to boat a small Bronzie, my first Sea Sweep and a couple of other nuisance fish. A bumpy ride of about an hour saw me safely back at Cockburn Powerboat Associations slipway. A quick rinse down and I was on my way home to prepare fresh Dhufish fillets for lunch.

 For my brothers birthday yesterday we managed to get out in the boat with a mate of ours jayden and boy did we have an out of control day!!

left the boat ramp at 3:30 am for what was looking to be a great day weather wise and started making our way out to some spots for demersals. first light we had first drop, slowly making our way out further with the weather just getting better and better all the time, picked up 6 nannys and a big breaksea and some small sambos for a slow start.

got out to the sambo patches and had some fun in glass off conditions for a few hours, we managed a heap of fish over 20kg and i managed to smash my PB sambo and crack my 100lb+ goal with a sambo that was just out of this world big!! over 160cm long and somewhere over 100lbs. we even hooked up to a few that felt bigger again!!

with arms and backs sore it was off to fill the esky with demersals. found another 3 patches of sambos and managed to find a school of pinkys and another school of nannys hanging behind the sambos so we picked up our bag of nannys and 7 pinkys in about half an hour or so.

few more sambo drops and called it quits for the drive back in with the ocean still looking like a lake. 
one of the best days ive ever had out in the boat and cant wait to get back out there again.

Just a update on the New Boat Ramp.

Have heard quite a few grumbles about new ramp. 

To steep for smaller boats. 

Very slippery down at the bottom when launch/retrieve. 

Built for bigger boats not smaller, thats the general comments I've heard. 

Need a 4x4 to launch/retrieve. 

One car in the ocean already and a few mishaps.

Too steep even for some experienced boaties.

Built in wrong spot.

No ladders, heard they have been ordered.

Personally can't comment,  a lot of my close friends are using the Town Ramp  (apparently ladders  are ordered for new ramp) as with their aching bones etc find its better to get in and out of the boat.

Might have to sit down their and see what is going on, take some photos.

Wind hasn't stop blowing, at the moment of writing strong easterly to south eastlery blowing.  Townies getting up at sparrow fart to check their cray boats, in before the southerly blows in between 8.00am and 10.00am

Took my (wife's) nephew for a quick flick early this morning between the bridges at North Freo for about 2 hours.
Caught these for lunch today. Now just have to get wifey to clean and cook.

Saw a reasonable school of something in the middle of the river - not sure what they were but they were moving at a great rate of knots up river then got to about red herring and turned back, disappeared after the old Freo bridge. Possibly being chased by some bigger thing. Didn't see any dolphins. Seagulls liked it though.

The day started off with a big egg on one tyre, after a lot of stuffing around I found two tyres and we got them fitted, so the morning trip ended up being an afternoon trip.

My wife wanted to snorkel so we snorkelled for a fair while then I went and checked out some new ground, after not finding much I stumbled on a good show, baits were down for a few seconds and we were both on. My new PB nannygai at 92.5cm and on a McCarthy soft plastic, pretty stoked. My wife's PB too, she doesn't fish very often, so her first big one.

with failing light and two good fish for Xmas we called it a day, we could have cleaned up but that's a lot of fillets and enough fish for one trip!

 Thailand is heaven for some of the exotic freshwater fishing in the world.

Many of the giant freshwater fishes like the arapaima, giant siamese carp & giant mekong catfish, their populations in the wild habitat are fast declining.

Anglers from all over the world are flocking to this part of asia (Thailand) to fish them.

5 days of fishing !!! 5 awesome catches for these 5 american anglers !!!

Hi crew, I haven’t been able to get much fishing in lately so I am glad the Bream have finally moved up the river and close to home. It’s been hard going with wind and tides all wrong for fishing out of the canoe, with the fish not wanting to take plastics and hard bodies I had to resort to baits this week.

Fishing from the Redcliff bridge and up river to Guilford bridge the Bream have been schooling around the large bait schools of Bony Herring and moving closer to shore in the late arvo along the deep drop offs. I have been getting plenty in the low 30’s with some big bust offs amongst the snags. Quite a few fishos have been landing fish in the 40cm range but I haven’t managed to land one yet (I might have to upsize my gear for a while) 

Following the Bony’s are plenty of small Mulloway, they can be seen smashing up bait all along the areas I have fished. Some fishers have been getting plenty into the dark hours but its unfortunate to see so many who don’t stick to bag limits, this is also the case with Bream, having words with someone yesterday about this issue they took off with a full bucket before I could get to my phone to call fishwatch.

Most people I talk to are doing the right thing and keeping only a few fish out of the many caught. 

Sorry no pictures of the bream until I get some of good size, but yesterday I hooked this little fellow on the 4lb gear. He gave me a good fight hooking it just out from the rock wall behind me in the picture. Glad to say I managed a quick picture and he swam of to get a bit bigger. At 52cm was good to finally land one after hooking many this week but not landing any.

 This trip really was the tailor trip the misses and i realsed a heap of good tailor to 75cm (the local lad tangles was the only one to crack the 80 mark) mainly on lures had a few smash my balloon baits just as they skipped off the rocks we kept the odd 0ne for mulloway baits,

The soapy mullas were every wear as well all my mullas under 80cm were relised and one kept that was close to the 90cm mark also dropped a few bigger models i still cant get my head around how good they are at shaken hooks even after chasing these buggers for over 10 years tangles and i both fish differenly with snells and gangs but didnt matter as they spat them and left us wondering if all this mulloway fishing is finaly sending us round the twist sorry bout the photo of the mulla that green can wasnt the only empty lying around

another highlight was my misses first bonnie off the stones and me dropping a moster trevaly the cast before after a good 15 minute fight i inclueded a picture of the main lures doing the damage and the silver 55g twisty was also good

after giving up on the Crays (to hard by myself) been out crabbing a few times with my daughter & cleaning up! Using dropnets and finding most of the bigger crabs in the 1.4m mark atm... Getting our quota in 4-5 pulls & all males (Mandurah estuary)

 Has anyone got a report or pics of recent catches at North mole or surroundings?

Went out with spinners charters in albany yesterday for a fundrasier for brain cancer with it being a lures only day, between us we managed to raise just over $3000. great day for a great cause and Tony the skipper put us all onto some awesome fish. ill just put up the photos from my brother and myself but all up we got lots of sambos (only 4-5 under 20kg with 4 over 30kg) few nannys, dhuies, queeny, john dory, breaksea cod, big skippy and other reef fish. 

i was using the light gear most of the day and managed a 27kg fish on the jigging master fallings limited UL, pe2 reel and pe3 braid as my best. Aron got one about 32kg on the pe6 reel and super tornado M rod and his biggest going mid to high 30's on the expo 5500 and monster kingy H rod. we all got smoked by some monsters with the first drift on the sambos resulting in all 10 hooked up and 6 of those fish making it back to the bottom in a matter of seconds.

awesome day for a great cause and was well worth it and got to fish with a great bunch of guys.
