as noha said, use bottom
as noha said, use bottom lock, and zoom in on the other side... you can make the function key your zoom in key. first turn the range to manual, then go into your menu, highlight the zoom , and hold the function key on..then the function key will take you straight to the zoom setting each time ( this may not be 100% right, from memory...read ya manual. ;) ).
i like to look at the bottome 10m in depths to 50-60m...then bottom 20 after....
gain, adjust till you get clutter, then back off till its just gone....
hope it helps

who diji
dunno if u mean me diji..
but i like to obviously see the bottom but also see where there are fish.. i wont fish a good bottom without fish on it, although.. i have fished some ground without the 585 showing fish and pulled dhuies.. weird but.. guess it cant read everything..
a mate of mine who run a charter for a few yrs down here set my sounder up.. all manual.. damm u can even see the lines dropping in.. but i think i stuffed it a bit.. playin.. just tryin to distinguish fish from reef on the bottom lock..
cheers luke & noha for ur input
