Me mate sent me this pic caught in 32m apparently they are a norhtern species caught in 700 fathoms???

 Looks like a species of Gurnard that is common in NZ. Apparently very good eating.

occasionally enters esturies but generally found in deeper offshore waters found nsw,vic,tas,sa to wa (rottnest)

it was in the book Sea Fishes of Southern Australia, this book can be verry handy

ye me and a mate where fishing at hilarys and we caught one alot bigger than that one they look so poisonous. dose anyone know what those claw like things are under there body?
