SI teaser

SI teaser

Just a teaser shot for now. More details to follow later.

Note the pylons on the right, and the dark outline below being the river bank, and the rocks above it and closer to the boat.  I ended up only straightening up in the top part of the image, so the left side was a bit off though. Better pics to come soon.

Who did the comparison?

Fri, 2010-08-06 17:27

Who did the comparison? Looks like the gain on the humminbird could be turned up a bit/other settings fiddled with to get a better comparison Wink

But those lowrance shots are great! Still happy choosing the humminbird though (more factors than just the DI)

As far as I can recall, the

As far as I can recall, the HDS' have a dedicated downscan beam, while the humminbirds have the beams set up for side scan, then they added a software update for down imaging (so the beams arent quite under the boat) which is good as you got a free update. Would explain why theres a diff in image quality (I still recon they need to up the contrast or gain on the humminbird, but the lowrance will still be better)

Should be interesting to see if Humminbird come up with dedicated down imaging with the transducer.

Though, not sure how often i'd use down imaging. Side imaging is what the unit was designed for, and seems to work great so far (there wont be a similar difference in image quality compared to the DI images). Also useful having all the other map/goto/history/etc features, plus the preset buttons are nice.

I had a Hummingbird side

Fri, 2010-08-06 17:45

I had a Hummingbird side scan 920i on my Trophy.

Works dam well in water upto max 20m, then you loose all definition.

Also those images above are in fresh water, in salt water, the Hummingbird is better than the Lowrance. The screen colours also make a huge difference, I used the darker image on mine. I'll see when I get back to Perth next week, if I still have pics from the Swan I took with the side-scan.

Sweet mate!

I've had the 798ci on my yak for about 6 months, love it. Overkill some might say, there the ones who don't have one..

The pipe out from Woodies point, gives a good idea how all the screens portray the info.
