Yeah it is a barge of some type - ~6m high cat design at the bow, then flat at the bow(which is buried). Big open deck, well ribs remain, so you can dive down into it carefully. Lots of soft corals and lots and terminal tackle for collecting.
It is an interesting dive - especially at night. Hard to get pics as the water is generally not good....mind you I've only dived it when outside conditions are really crap and I just need a compressed air fix!

As far as i knew there actually is a D9 mark for a dozer in the sound it was on a barge bound for Garden Island and didnt make it and the more common d9 marking is actually the dredge which was used to make the shipping channels out of the sound and yes Dredge number 9 . I have the two different marks in my GPS but have never dived on them

Formerly known as the Parmelia, it was built as a bucket dredge during the 1930's. Renamed D9 when sold to the Dredging Industries of Australia, she was converted to a suction dredge for the excavation of the channels of Kwinana. Sunk in 1962 for unknown reasons and was then moved to the middle of Cockburn Sound where she is now located.
I still like to do my Cockburn Sound research on weight/length of bigger pinks etc. I would love to know more ie development also. If the frame was available for research i'll store it with the others i have!
I've been researching Cockburn Pinkys for many years and whilst my WA Fisheries stuff is done i still like researching myself. I too are careful with the palethera of info i pass on!
