Not Surprised

Sun, 2012-05-06 22:39

I was beach fishing at Guilderton a couple of years ago when I spotted a school of fish, after several casts, I hooked one using a small red head Kokoda slice. When I got it in it was hooked in the mouth. One of the locals muttered "I bet you cant do that again" so I caught another with the next cast. He wandered off shaking his head !!

they will take lures and plastics! if they are sea mullet you are pretty lucky to catch them on lures

Pilch

Thats a pilch or by its other name a yellow eyed mullet, very different from mullet that are weed eaters.

Pilch also rarely take lures, mostly caught on maggots or small bits of prawn

Book

Suggest you have a good look in a fish id book, you will find it listed as a yellow eyed mullet, sea mullet don't have yellow eyes. or a thin head for their size.

Yellow eye are browner in colour and more slender IMO. The fact that it took a lure would suggest it is one tho hmm
