METRO MACKIE TO BREAK IN THE NEW BOAT!

METRO MACKIE TO BREAK IN THE NEW BOAT!

Hi there, hit the water this morning at Hillarys at 0630. Took the short trip down to scarbs, for a few whiting for tea.Very quiet on the squid scene, water was very murky.

Strong eastly blowing and i got to try my new drift anchor i got from oceanside tackle, while difting over broken ground at hale rd reef. I tell you now if you havnt got one..do yourself a favour and get one..easy to set , very easy to retreive and slows ya boat down bigtime. Anyway after a few drifts for only wrasse and one just undersize pink snapper..it was time to head out a bit.

Went over to the shallows around rotto, to try for some kgs..but it wasnt our luck today.  Bored of no bites, i then declared to the wifey its time for some trawling. We set up our rods and then started trawling..the mrs hadnt done any before and as i was about to start telling her what the go is i hear zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz coming from my rod....mmm  first reaction was i have got a snag, as we had only just started. But after a few cranks of the reel..all the tell tale signs of a mackie were there.

After 5 mins i had the fish along side the boat, and said to the mrs..grab the gaff..she then replied "how do i use it" im not sure what i said, but im sure it sounded something like "you stick it in the F&*(*ng fish"  with one swipe Claire nailed the catch and we had pulled off a 91.5cm metro mackie!  With blood thru the new boat..i am now happy she is broken in.

That's a great start to life with your new boat. Can I suggest you get the Mrs out the backyard practising her gaff work (Lol).
