Hey Jay i caught one the same size off broome jetty one night. It was around 45cm and the guys at the tackle shop said they dont get much bigger than that! Dont know if he ment for broome or the species though. Can you get them bigger?
Jacks can get rather large SPESS upto 4-5kg or around the mark. We got a couple over the weekend that would have been around your 45cm mark but they do get big. I think they are a brother to the spanish flags (striped sea perch)we get up north. Dont quote me on this though. Not sure where to find the big buggers but if you do let me know!! they go hard those little bastards!!
at least up to ten kilos im pretty sure .man would i like to land one of those babies.wouldnt like my chances though. i reckon they would pull a 20 kg barra backwards .not that ive ever caught one.haha
ive seen a pic or two of a few caught of the monties and they would be about 70 cm long and very nasty looking .one of my dream fish for sure

Yeah spooled ive heard that the fingermark, spanish flag are cousins aparrently. ive caught heaps of both of them and they dont go nearlly s hard as a jack does! They smashed my lures harder than anything else ive ever got, for the same size etc.
Out on the deep reefs they get big, as already mentioned... but for creeks they reckon around 45cm is the upper limit. That one is 43cm in case you can't tell from the mat. I've managed to get a 50cm jack from the samson causeway which is my current PB and in the same night we also got a 49 and two 48's. It's my number one spot for jack fishing in the north-west... hint, hint.
Jacks to 6kg's have been pulled out of shallow water around the islands but they get bigger offshore. I was pestered by spanglies when flickin lures around the islands but would love to battle a big jack in shallow reefy country.
