Cuttlefish

Cuttlefish

First caught a wrasse and this cuttlefish followed it up, so lowered the wrasse back down and the cuttle fish latched onto it and wasn't letting go.

Caught a few bigger ones and this is the first one we have kept, so hopefully will taste nice.

Can't beat fresh Cuttlefish IMO. I prefer them more then the squid but hey, they do the same job as filling up your tummy!

My reels screaming zzzzzzz.... awwww damn it, its another boat!

All the best for the future fishing trips.

Tender????

I found the Cuttlefish alot tender then the Squid, did you find that Dean? With Squid they tend to be alot chewyer then the Cuttlefish.

can't really remember, as it was eaten that quick - probably best to compare them side by side, so will aim to do that next time I catch one, then i'll tell ya

Have got one massive beak on them, glad it grabbed the fish and not my finger

Cuttlefish Beak.

Mate their killer beak is brutal. I saw one that latched onto my small Skippy and it just took a gnarly chunk out of the fish.  So yeah, next time when your out squidding give it ago and compare them. Its great!

The only cuttle ive ever

Wed, 2007-10-10 12:44

The only cuttle ive ever caught ( big fella!) was placed into the live well with water as i was trying to keep it alive for a while until needed as bait. Anyway in the same well were 5 herring that i had also kept for bait and by the time we got out to our destination i reached into the live well and there was only 3 herring left! Bluddy thing ate them all except 2! Thankfully the cuttle caught me 2 dhuies that day so i was happy in the end! :)

yeah their tentacles are great for dhuies and has accounted for a couple for me.

get some big buggers out in 40-50m of water, but usually return them.

Big Cuttle's.

Wed, 2007-10-10 12:56

The larger one's that I caught and eat wasn't so pleasent as they have a gnarly scent on them when cooked (smells like a uneral) and when I ate the bigger Cuttle's it was hard and chewy. So best if they went back and I prefer to take the smaller to medium size ones. But they are YUMMY anyhow.

Did you ever use them for King George Whiting? Never caught any KG's on Cuttlefish but I catch them on Squid.
