While doing a dive for crays in Bunbury I had a go at snaring a Boarfish.Laughing

Never really tried for the boarfish, so far just have harly, wrasse and leatherjackets.

They are highly regarded as a table fish by spearos.

You can keep the crays[even though I love them] and give me the boarfish.LOL.
They are one of the best tasting fish in the sea.They are equal top eating fish along with nannigui and baldchin groper.

They are usually caught by spear or in shark nets.Its rare for someone to catch them on a line and then its by accident when they were targetting other species.
They feed on small crabs and worms living in crevices in the reef.

Buz my understanding is that they are not captured "regularly" on baits or jigs hence the comment about spearos.

Not a bad effort at all mate! From what I hear you rarely get them on lines - spearo's only. (Oh and the talented cray looper!!)

was diving in about 6m but had a 50m swim back to the boat with two hands on the snare and fingers crossed all the way . I was using a snare with no spring so could not let the pressure off to get him in the bag.
