Zipwakes

Looking at zipwakes for a new boat build, just wondering about minimum distance from the transducer as not to effect reading. Plate boat 6.2m thinking about going the 450s. Cheers

Dont fight nature, deep v boats ride well through the water because they dont fight nature/Physics they cut through it.
All well and good keeping the boat level, but you have to also let it do what it wants to do to work with nature..
The minute you start bashing the hull against the water you will break something,Ali boat(welds)Fiberglass (stress fractures).
I have seen broken backs on a boat and humans .

 I tend to disagree with

I tend to disagree with that.

When you get a breeze on the beam and your hull is leaning into it as they naturally will, your deep V isnt doing what it is supposed to.

The flat of one size of hull bottom is no longer cutting but pounding, and might as well be a flat bottom punt?

Misunderstood me, not saying dont have them ,they are great but dont abuse what the boat wants to do to get a calm ride.See so many boats just pounding through the waves.

At the end of the day you can Disagree all you Like.

IMO

NO,
they do work different, forward momentum of the boat and the plate on the zipwake going down forces the water against the plate down which in turn pushes the boat up,more plate down more boat up.So its the displacement of the water that forces it down and the boat up which creates drag.
Where a trim tab deflects the water down which moves the boat up on that side,(less drag ).

IMO Old school work fine ,bigger the tab better it will trim.

I'm sure someone will disagree.

yeah, that was my thought too.

i was lookng at some for the new boat, but had trim tabs on the old one, and they worked great, so couldnt really justify the extra 3k that it would cost.

According to a few articles

According to a few articles I've read zipwakes provide less drag than trim tabs.

It's hard to get your head

It's hard to get your head around but laws of hydrodynamics mean the interceptor style actually have less drag than conventional tabs.
