your favourite WA fishing location

well a similar thread has been done before but it was quite a while ago and we have a lot of new members since so i figured it was worth another crack. Here is the thing, you have to single out your favourite region in WA and give us a "why" as well. You dont have to necessarily have fished the area, it might be somewhere you are yet to travel to.

Mine

well i must say i cant look past the Pilbara.

WHY: It has just about everything and for every level of experience. GT's, bills, trout, reds, mackies, rankins, all your snapper, barra, threadies, jack. you name it. We have the montes, dampier, thevenard, and about a million different creek systems to get lost in. I have only explored about half of the area, i reckon i will spend a lot of years looking at the rest...

If i had to be more specific i would have to say the montes, WHY? well the place is the whole experience, it is more than just the fishing. The place is simply breathtaking... I have been there three times this year and i feel like i have barely scratched the surface. So much to o so much to see and no where near enough time.

oh the memories, the only thing its missing is barra, even then i am not quite sure that is true......

so what is yours?

I'd have to say the the great south west. In particular Albany through to Walpole.

It's just such a beautiful area with it's forests of huge trees, beautiful clean rivers, pristine deserted beaches (except during holidays) and rugged coastline.

Lots of fishing options from river and estuary, to the coastal beaches and deep water rock spots or out deep in the boat when the weather allows. Always somewhere to fish with any weather conditions and usually garenteed a feed!

Wont say anymore as I wouldn't want to encourage anymore people to fish the area... :P

Exmouth for the great fishing and easy access to the fishing and the Abrolhos Islands, this place would have to be the closest thing to fishing heaven !!

Canarvon/Warroora

The area between Carnarvon to Warroora station.Over the years and many many trips to Quobba,Gnaraloo Warroora, the islands off Carnarvon have consistantly produced great catches and varieties that remain in the memory banks forever.
Having fished from Albany through to Mandurah along the beaches/rocks and professionally around the capes and from Exmouth through to Cape Bossett none of which comes near to the Carnarvon areas with the exception of the Monties[never got to fish inside though]

For me it would be Scott

Mon, 2009-12-07 16:17

For me it would be Scott Reef, with the main drawcard for me primarily being BIG dogtooth, plus BIG GTs, trout, red bass, yellowfin tuna, wahoo... all the exotic stuff on tap.

Coral Bay For Me

Mon, 2009-12-07 17:18

The variety of fish on offer and close proximity to the Ningaloo Reef, make it No 1 for me. I also rate Kalbarri very highly, but at the end of the day, there are so many great spots.

I'll tell you in a fortnight after travelling from Broome to Exmouth via the Rowleys, but in the meantimeit's gotta be Broome barra to billfish and everything in between and great spots whatever way the wind is blowing.

I'd have to say Exmouth even

Tue, 2009-12-08 08:20

I'd have to say Exmouth even though I'm sure it will pop up here a fair bit. Pelagics, shallow lagoons, bottom bogging, spearing, creek fishing, crabbing, crays etc, all very do-able from a small boat and on minimal fuel and travelling time. The only thing it's missing in consistent barra fishing, and even then they're only a 6 hour drive away. If you could just make it harder to get to so the crowds thin out a bit....
As for trips to "exotic" WA locations, Scott Reef is great but ease of access/ weather vulnerability is an issue so I'll have to give it to the Monties because it's the complete package. It's got the lot- close enough for DIY trips, far enough away to keep the crowds away, top fishing with great variety, plus excellent spearing and awesome scenery.
