Best catch, probably due to

Tue, 2005-11-15 19:42

Best catch, probably due to line class, was a mulloway around 7 to 8ks on 3,5kg bream line. Nothing like being nailed by a good fish and bringing it in undergunned.

Mine is

Wed, 2005-11-16 11:08

Mine would probably be the spangled emperor i caught up at Exmouth this year.. Just floated down a mulie cube on my 6kg ambassador and got smoked a quarter of the way down.. a good 10 minute fight later brought it to the surface with plenty of sharkies around, suprised it made it up in one piece..  The fish is extremely closeup in the photo, but it was still all of 5-6kg.. made me very happy that day. :)

Other than that, the day with the mulloway and skippy double/triple header is one of my most memorable.. not only bringing that fish up in front of the shikari charter/fwa boys, but my fishing luck was on that day.. the boys don't reckon i'll get a fish till after new years after a day like that, we'll see.. !

Spangled Emperor

Was sweet

Yeh, pulln up my first mulla like that was pretty cool.. i was stoked :)

We had heaps of drifts and that was the first time we had tried drifting left of the container, changing it up worked wonders and having a secret rig accounted for most of them..

Gotta love a mulloway like that from the river.. especially on that gear!!

ive always loved chasing

Thu, 2005-11-17 19:26

ive always loved chasing salmon along preston beach in the fourby, stalking a school thats just out of casting distance until you land that one close enough and it goes off.

I recall one time i was with my brother and uncle going back a few years(think i was in year 10 at the time) and i got about 4 in a row on a halco raider 65g with a 10ft snyder/si4000 reel combo. My brother thought my outfit was catchin the fish adn his "el cheapo 8ft " with a producers bonito diving lure wouldnt work. So i swapped with him and first cast(even tho i only made it half way to the school) i hooked a 6kg fish and landed it. Must have been a stray but it shut him up :p

Not the biggest fish, but somethin ill always remember(read: rub in to brother for ever and ever).

17kg Spaniard

These two in consecutive drops, same day about 3 or 4 years ago now. Haven't been able to replicate it since, despite trying reel hard.

Metro Spaniard and Big Dhuie sharing an esky

The day I decided to get one of those Tropical Esky's twice the size. Given that it happened first thing in the morning we had to use wet towels to keep the fish fresh. Luckily it was the end of May so the temp was pretty cool. Very memorable day for sure.

Proof of the double

That's the mother-in-law standing over the 17kg spaniard and 17kg dhuie with a couple of other dhuies and sambo's and harlequins etc in the foreground. Just in case anyone didn't believe I caught the two on the same day. That's the old fishcleaning bench before I got the new rolls royce version (stainless steel bae-maree)that I have now. (plus before we got the drive way put in Jeez time flies, it seems like only yesterday we caught those beauties.

Cheers

My best Capture

Fri, 2007-09-28 10:25

Cobia from the rocks at the Caves, Quobba...whilst barefooot about 10 years ago.

Bottomed out 30kg scales.

65 minutes of fight with 850ss spooled with 10kg braid - party ballon and mulie, 5 foot out from the rock wall.  It was a frantic few seconds fixing tangled line from a major botched cast, whilst watching this cobia engulf my mulie floating on the ocean surface a few metres below.

Got mine in The West paper as well...but alas, have lost the clipping.

Cheers Pete

My finest capture!

Fri, 2007-09-28 10:55

Probably my first ever Black Bream on a lure. Been trying for so long and then I cracked it. Can't get over that day, even though it was like 23cm it was my first.

My reels screaming zzzzzzz.... awwww damn it, its another boat!

All the best for the future fishing trips.

mack attack

Fri, 2007-09-28 11:31

96' - I was living in Weipa at the time and was throwing a nilsmaster invincible around the rock bars on an ABU 7000 with 10kg mono/50lb mono leader at the mouth of the Hay River(5 mins from the boat ramp) just after sunrise. It was near full tide and the rock bar drops away steeply into deep water.  As the boat drifted past the fishiest part of the point, I kept firing casts at it....slowly getting further and further away...so each time, my lure had to run back through deeper and deeper water. Halfway through the retrieve, about 20m out from the rocks a gigantic Spanish Mack came flying out of the water and nailed my little barra lure on the way down......somehow, it's teeth missed the leader and after nearly getting spooled and then chasing her down...I slipped the gaff into a 37kg Spanish Mackerel. It was 174cm long and fed everyone at the Albatross Hotel in Weipa for lunch the next day.....

Hi Ya, Nothing in the class

Fri, 2007-09-28 13:03

Hi Ya,

Nothing in the class of you guys, but my best capture to day was a double header of flaties in Augusta.  One measured 78cm the other 54cm.   Caught on a 5'6" 4-8kg rod I built my self and using 10lb fireline.  Thought I'd caught the bottom to start with. :)

Was pretty chuffed with that.

No pics :(

Cheers.

Shark Bay Bonanza

Fri, 2007-09-28 15:05

Best every trip i did was a charter out from sharkbay around dirkhartog island for 4 days.
Fish, eat, sleep on the boat. We caught enormous bluebone, pinkys, mullaway, coral trout, cod,
Best trip ever. One night we were anchored for the night in one of the bays and me and me brother were fishing and lots of baby turtles came swimming around and past the boat. They had just hatched from the beach. Was the best trip ive been on. will try and post some pics.
