Witch doctor / teaser for Mackies

Been messing around making sum teaser / witch doctors to hopefully attract the fish and increase my chances. Have had success on the metro mackrel and tuna before trawling bibbed minnows but after reading peoples reports on increased strikes with the aid of teasers im going to give it a go. If these dont work i will just go buy the real deal but i just love making my own gear and experimenting so fingers crossed. These are made of pvc pipe and my theory is that they will fill up with water making them sink and water should come out the back creating a bubble trail. Have attatched a stainless steel eye ring at back so can also add squid skirts etc. Total cost about $10.

Interesting indeed Lyle, I think they will do fine getting a nice bubble trail out the back.

They look great.

The end cap looks like a flue or sewer vent cap. Available from Bunnings / Masters / Tradelink / Plumbing supply stores.

Is the sticker material waterproof? Did you seal the edges so that the water pressure doesn't peel the sticker off?

Yeh got the end caps from bunnings and sure did seal the ends of sticker with epoxy so the water doesnt get under like you said. have also sealed whole pipe with several coats of clear spray paint to seal. Mark i was going to put them lures on but not sure if this thing will spin in the water or not. its on a rotating swivel but if it holds still i will deffeniately attatch the swimbaits for sure.

Looking good! I use a witchdoctor, its angled face makes it walk all over the place sending beams off light off the mirrors, you should try one of your ones with that angled end sealed up and put a few drill holes along the body as water intakes for jetting a smoke trail, it might walk better than having an open face,

Great to see someone having a crack themselves.

Where did you get the wrap from? I made some teasers last year and couldn't find it anywhere! Looked for about a month then spent about 3 hours polishing stainless steel instead!

Looks The goods!!

Sat, 2014-11-01 21:42

Looking good mate!! As Damo86 said seal up the face and you should obtain the darting action, you could always add something with slight weight inside the tube to get a rattle effect that swimming lures produce.

Let us all know how it works.

Teaser

Wed, 2014-11-19 14:34

Gave the teaser a go today out from hillaries. Trawled a couple of bibbed minnows around for a while with no result.

The teaser didnt sink fully like i thought it would but it did ok. it came to the surface a bit then it would nose dive just under the surface when we went over a bit of swell. i held it close to the boat for a bit and the water was still going out the back end creating a disturbance. i ran it about 10m behind the boat and had also attatched half a dozen weighted squid skirts.

Bit of weed around out there which is always a pain in the butt.

Will probly wait a couple of weeks and try again.

random thought

Wed, 2014-11-19 18:55

I wonder if it would help any, warming the bottom side of the leading edge up a tad with a heatgun, then with the tip of a pair of pliers, jsut bend a little section of it downwards to try and get it to dive a bit more?

Tue, 2014-11-25 19:28

Have you thought about moving the take off point onto the opposite side (of the solid pink one) so that a bib is created from the angle of the leading edge?
