venturing further out
hi all again
3rd post for the day (sorry).
ive just changed jobs for the past 9 monnths i was working 6 nights a week, hence why i havnt been fishing for awhile and prob caused why my boat played up yesterday(boating section).anyway with a 15ft boat i have only fished cockburn and warnbro sound.my boys r now 12,14 and would like to try further out. obviously conditions would have to suite being a smaller boat. i have heard of the 5 and 7 fathom bank r these easily to get to from warnbro and how far out r they how wide apart they r from outer edge to inner edge.basically if someone has any co-ords to these just to get me there and back, i dont want your personal spots but just a starting point so me and the boys can try our luck somewhere else thanks in advanced.

Charts have it all mate. Or take a bearing 290-300 6NM from Point Perron ramp and you will be in the general vicinity of some good ground around 25-30m west side of the ffb. May see you out there tomorrow ;-)

Coventry's Reef
It's only about 3 to 4 nautical miles west/northwest of the sound. It's on both the paper and electronic charts and is most noted for it's big tailor, salmon, yellowtail kings, and sambos. It's actually part of the Five Fathom Bank and breaks in any size swell. Pick a day with a light offshore wind and a swell of a metre and a half or less (and who knows when that will be?) and cast mulies or metals at the back of the reef. I've seen lots of people trolling through there as well but haven't personally caught anything there doing that.
Haven't heard of the 7 fathom bank but the five is easily the most significant offshore structure from the northern end of GI down to south of Mandurah. It ranges from 3 to 7 miles off the coast and rises up from about 17-20 metres to maybe four metres at it's shallowest. The back edge has been good to me over the years...I try to stay away from the main bank itself and look for less obvious bits of broken ground. Less snags, less wrasse, more quality fish. I used to anchor and berley here with reasonable success but my snapper catches have really improved since I started driftbaiting and that's what I mostly do now.
If you go to the Perth Game Fishing Club's website and look up their FADS map, you will actually see the Five Fathom Bank as well as all the other shallower bits off the metro area.

5 Fathom bank
Head out from point peron and you cant miss the bank.
Fishing either before or after the bank in bout 20m to 30m can produce some good fish. Plenty of snapper are always around the bank. Anchor and burley.
You can also get an idea of good ground if cray pots are around. Hope that helps.
Fishing isn't a matter of life or death, it's much more serious than that!!!
