us WA fishos arent so bad

hi guys, ( in response to a recent post abt WA fishso having a bad name)during a commercial break on a foxtel fishing show it had a ad for starlos new website. so i went to check it out.

what i found was fishos over east are posting photos of esky full of kingfish and a floor full of kgs n other fish. sure they are keeping within their limits, but it makes me think of when is the last time someone posted a photo of an esky full of sambos and big fish kills.

i think that our attitudes towards rec fishing is far more ahead than other states give us credit for. ive fished with heaps of people recently and not 1 is concerned about the amount of fish they kill, but rather just having a good day out.

ive even been on a boat recently when one of my mate got a 60cm plus dhuie, patted on the head and he said to the fish before releasing it ' go make more babies '.(this is after a dud session btw)

happy fishing

Yes in some instances you do cop shit, but the good thing about that is we don't feed those green groups easy ammunition to shut the fishery down.  You'd be amazed at how far reaching this website is and who reads it as WA's largest and most representative site.  In the early days when this was a slay website we had heaps of arguments about the merits of posting kill shots and what good they were for.  Sure its nice to see one every so often, but most people agreed that seeing a good fish photo with a person holding it was so much better than seeing 10 dead fish on the grass.

When you get 20 different members posting up kill shots of one weekend and theres 30 dhuies dead on the grass (back in the old limits), it was pretty hard for us to refute that; nah the recs don't do any damage, its all the pros.  If that was just from 20 fishwrecked members, then whats happening with the rest of the perth metro, neverlone the state.  I think posting huge fish kill shots doesn't do our image any good as it brings extra public attention to what we do, we can still brag about our catch but do it in a way that doesn't give our opponents (greenies) a free lunch at the marine sanctuary meetings.  By seeing numerous photos of big fish kills, were providing the evidence to use against ourselves.

I'm sure many will say, what do we care - but I'm sure it will be those people jumping up and down when the coast gets locked down and more regulations come in.  Ultimately I have tried to make this site focus on the 'trophy' photo rather than the 'kill' shot.

i have noticed in Wa alot of

i have noticed in Wa alot of people only take what they can eat before it goes of. many times i go out fishing and most good fish are released and i love seeing this. when dhuies and pinkies are put back and a big flathead and silver bream is all thats in the esky. also over here we are very lucky in the taste department, we dont need to go out and slay 2 kings each because we could rather just have a dhuie and a baldy and be set. (i do know people who love their kings but still only take little ones and not very often). from what i have seen from when i started fishing we take alot less fish in comparison to what we actaully need then over east. less "family and neighbour  fish" and more "whats for dinner fish" no one can get upset over that
