Tuna
I would have thought it was more than likely a southern bluefin tuna, and billfish aren't generally regarded as a common capture, but they do get a few about the Rottnest Trench.

prob sbt's
mate of mine's been heading out from there the twice in last week. he was getting stuck into them.
i'd like to know how long they are expected to stay in metro waters?
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

YFT's and SBT's,
are very hard to tell apart at that young age...the patterns on the stomach are nearly identical and the sickles on the yellowfin don't become evident until the fish reach much larger sizes. Generally, the YFT's are more likely to have a very vivid yellow stripe down the side, and the tail is a much brighter yellow.
Been the best SBT year I can remember...the FADs have been rotten with tiny ones (35cm) and I got a four kilo fish off Dawesville a couple weeks ago.
