Hi Vans

A scaley mackeral is small member of the mackeral family - not unlike a mulie in looks. They are easy to catch on little bait cathing (xmas tree) rigs and make a great bait.
If you want to see some pics, Tailor Marc posted some of good catch of his a month or so ago.

Thanks guys, would it be unusual to find a few of them in a 15kg pack of IQF mulies. I recently got a pack and have wondered if there may be two types in there. One with little spots on their side along the transition from silver to blue and the other without, that seems to stay on the gangs a lot longer.

not that I would recommend it nor would I do it but a bucket of pollard and a pollard dusted wet prawning net lowered down with 2 ropes is how years ago I seen them catching them on the freo wharf on the western side, my old man was a wharfie. not sure on the legality of it
