Needs some work but I can't

Fri, 2022-06-17 07:40

Needs some work but I can't see the locals enjoying the prospect of a marina.

When we were up there last year, we had an inflatable on the roof we had to assemble and load at the jetty. The flow of bus loads of tourists was a pain for those trying to get boats in the water....but I was also a pain when we had to carry the boat down the ramp and then carry the motor and all the gear....but I did all that on the non ramp side and couldn't do it on the beach due to surge and breaking waves.

Depends on which locals you ask . . . Something like Coral Bay with a seperate ramp for commercial ( tourism industry ) operators wouldnt be the worst thing that could happen

I think you liked the busy ramp Marble, pretty sure you timed your run for when the whale shark tenders were disembarking..

Timing

Mon, 2022-06-20 20:45

Not absolutely sure, but seems that 8-9am and 2-4pm would be peak times for whale shark tours using the ramp.  So an early start and midday or late arvo fishing trip returns would avoid most of that interaction.

Not wrong

You are not wrong there Simo, the way they carry on you'd think they own it, barge their way in and don't give a shit about anyone but themselves

Totally agree with every comment.

On one hand you cant blame the tourist operators they are trying to make a living and on the other boat owners are just so bloody excited to get on the water

Then when you throw a hire boat or someone that has limited boat ramp expierence into the mix its a recipe for disaster! Then wind and swell surge!!!!

Get on have a look at the survey its actually pretty easy and it isnt multiple choice, you can actually put in comments or creative suggestions

Not too busy the last week

Sun, 2022-06-19 08:32

Spent the last fortnight in Exmouth and went past Tantabiddi every day en route to various snorkelling spots. Didn't seem too busy last week, going by the trailer numbers parked up, but still several buses there taking whale shark tourists. Would be good to get the commercial users off the public ramp, especially in busy times like school holidays, as it gets manic. Creates a bit of a negative vibe then,  imo

The draft plan looks ok .

Sun, 2022-06-19 13:41

The draft plan looks ok . There wll be lots of pushback from certain people in town about it though. Some would be happy to have zero rec boats have access to that side of the coast at all .

Good old Tantabiddi

Tue, 2022-06-21 09:36

Over the years had a few good arguments with the charter operators when coming in haha. Last time we went one came within milimeters from hitting my engine, thankfully the deckies were down the back and managed to put their foot out to stop him before he hit us. A few words were said and when one of the deckies whos 6 foot 4 and pretty well built jumped off my boat to "Give them a hand" they soon pulled their heads in hahaha

Proposal looks good

Wed, 2022-06-29 05:48

It addresses a number of current issues.

Separation of recreational and commercial users is a great step.

New location south of the existing facility will avoid silting issues.

Breakwall will definitely make it safer and easier when launching.

Commercial dropoff/pickup wharf will further help the congestion around the ramp and allow the operators to provide a more professional service (as opposed to ferrying passengers out in tenders and dinghies).
